View Full Version : LS1 Rears - Backing Plate Spacers

Getting ready to install rear LS1 discs on my 69 Camaro 10 bolt. I made some spacers from .250" inch aluminum plate I had laying around.. Is this too thick? Will I have trouble with my C-clips? I've read many posts and seen everything from no spacers needed to 1/4" and in between. Thanks for any help!

I run 3/16" but you should be fine with that. Mock it up to be sure.

Mine were just shy of 1/4 inch

when would you guys say a spacer is called for? I've got a stock 2nd gen Camaro 10 bolt (8.5").

When mocking it all up the pass. side rotor mounts just about flush with the calipers inner side, leaving quite a bit of space on the other side of the rotor. On the driver side there is approx. 2mm (5/64") of space between the inner part of the caliper to the rotor which means the rotor is free to rotate although not centered in the caliper.

How important is it to get it perfectly centered? Can get away with using a spacer on one side only?

Where are you having to run this spacer?

Between the LS1 backing plate/caliper mount bracket and the axle flange. To center the rotor in the caliper. There are pictures of it in other threads here.

yes....if it isn't used the abutment may contact rotor on certain circumstances.

Also measured distances may vary due to axle c-clip spacing differences.

Bolt it up, and check to see if the rotor is centered between the space on the abutement bracket, I used a washer between the backingplate and housing, so about .100" Your shimming on your diff can put one side out farther than the other so check both sides
