C5/C6 brakes and 17" MB Wheels... Good News!

Looks like C5/C6 front brakes will fit my 17x8 MB Old School wheels!

Inner wheel diameter is about 15.25" or maybe a touch more.

Plenty of room from the top of the caliper to wheel hoop, about .5" and about .2-.3" from caliper face to back of the spokes. Only issue I see is the bracket hitting the angled part of the wheel surrounding the lug holes. Interference is shown in the 2nd picture. This may not even be an issue once the actual parts are mounted. If so, some grinding may be needed, or a very small spacer.

*Side Note* Should I get hub-centric rings for this application? Look at the difference in bore diameter.

Off to get my tires mounted right now!

Yes. Most tire shops that sell wheels should have the adapters. They should not be that expensive.

You printed the template to scale, right?

Son of a b!tch... I made sure it wasn't rescaled when I printed it at work, but the 4" ruler on his template only measures an actual 3.875" inches. So my template is about 3% small.

I still think I'll be safe on the caliper face to spoke clearance. Top of the caliper to inside of wheel will be fine, I got .5" there... plenty of room. So it may be a touch tighter in the same spot I already pointed out...

I mounted them, and it sure changes the look of the car!

Co-signed. Those wheels look awesome on your car. I really like the smaller wheel with more meat on the sidewall. Nice work! Now roll it outside onto the ground and get some more pics up... please.

Ok more size specs and what brand/type wheels are they, I kind of think they might look good on my Monza!

MB Wheels from Discount Tire, here are all the available sizes:

      http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/whe...Selected=60432

I think they are the same as Coy's C-55. I was going to get the C-55's but Randy didn't have any more gunmetal 17x9.5 in stock. I was looking for other alternatives, and came across these. I really think they are the same wheel, for less money...

The template said the bracket would hit the center of my Soft 8 wheels (scale was correct) but the wheels cleared the bracket no problem. I would check fitment first before grinding just in case.

The pad abutment brackets, the part that appears to interfere with the wheel center pad in the pics, actually has a curved arch not shown in the templates. This "eyebrow" should give you about .15" additional radial clearance.

This is a tough part to show in 2-D only, so we've erred on the side of caution to avoid as much confusion as possible.

Thanks Tobin, I thought that was the reason. Just wanted to let others know so they don't possibly pass on wheels that would work.

I've had a few PM's with questions about this set up, now that I have the C5/C6 front & rear brakes from KORE3 installed.
So here are my answers to the PM's, in hopes of helping anybody searching for info:

Front Tires: 255/45/17 Cooper ZEON 2XS on 8" wide wheels.
Rear Tires: 295/45/17 Mickey Thompson DR's (new style tread) on 9.5 wide wheels.

SC&C Stage II Plus front suspension system with Global West coils & Edelbrock shocks.
UMI double adjustable upper and lower rear control arms, 11" HyperCo coils, Edelbrock shocks.

Up front, I didn't NEED a spacer, but holy cow was the clearance close. The wheels cleared the outside of the caliper fine, but there was literally only enough room to slide a credit card between the face of the caliper and the spokes. So I put a small 1/4" spacer on the front. I think it looks better too, the tires where too far 'sucked into' the wheel well. I do plan on swapping the studs on the KORE3 hubs for longer ones, because I lost some thread engagement on the lug nut due to the spacer. I'm running open ended lug nuts front and rear, so I wont worry if the studs are too long.

In the rear spacers were required. Again, the wheel cleared the outside of the caliper fine, but they hit the face of the caliper before they were properly seated on the rotor face. This required a 3/8" rear spacer. I tried the 1/4" spacer in the back, and it just hardly rubbed the caliper. Again I'm running extended studs in the back with open lug nuts. With the lowering springs and 295 tires in the back, I had to roll the quarter panel lip to prevent rubbing during suspension compression.

Here are the spacers I used http://www.jegs.com/p/JEGS/JEGS-5-Lu...57104/10002/-1 Notice they have individual holes for each bolt pattern... This holds the spacer centered much better then the kind with oval shaped holes for the studs to pass through.

These pictures are with the Hotchkis rear coils, the HyperCo coils I'm running now lowered the back another 1" and it looks much better.

I had to use a Moroso 7/32" shim/spacer to get my 17x8 Soft 8 wheels to clear the front C5 calipers. Without the spacer, the wheel would not turn.

Those wheels look GREAT! Did they only come in one size backspacing and if so do you know what it was for the fronts and rears?
