oil pressure gauge issue

I'm running an autometer pro-comp oil pressure gauge. Its a mechanical, oil filled gauge. I have a braided stainless line from the port beside the distributor(sbc) directly to the gauge.

When I first start the car the gauge reads fine. If I turn off the engine and restart the car, it doesnt read at all... I'm confused.
