I am having alot of troubles with my fuel tank vent on my DSE LS1 tank.
I have routed it 2 different way, the current way has a big loop in it and I am still getting fuel out of it.. I notice it when I park it will over flow onto the ground.
Sometimes when I am driving I smell fuel but cant tell if it is over flowing or not..
Last week I checked my fuel milage and I was only getting 11.25 miles to the gallon wich seems low. So I figure this might be a bigger problem then I think..
How should I have it run to not leak??
What do you have at the end of the vent tube?
Thanks

No matter how you do it, your going to have to get the vent high enough above the tank to cure it. I fabbed up a breather and will be posting pics soon in my build thread. I will say I used a 4th gen pressure relief valve and it did not work, although I have a friend who it seemed to work for.

Not sure exactly how you have your vent. I have the Rick's tank, I just ran NPT fittings and a rubber hose looped a couple times that ended in a little K&N filter. Used hose clamps and zip ties to hold it in place:

I'm not on the road yet so no idea as to the effectiveness, but would seem hard for the gas to work its way out.

Where does your vent come out of the tank?? Passenger side like the DSE??
From what I can see of your routing it looks very similar to what I have done with mine and it leaks like a *******, until the tank gets below 1/2..
Dont know what else to do..
It leaks so much that I only get 10 or 11 miles to the gallon..

Mine is on the driver's side. Most of the length of the hose and the breather is above the level of the hole in the tank. So I am hoping that minimizes any leakage.
Maybe some type of restricter or a fine inline filter might help, reduce the flow up the line?

I'm running 1/2 fuel hose to a K&N and only have trouble if I top it off. If your tank has an undersized vent that could be your problem as well. Your vent needs to be the same size as your engine feed line. I did have 1/2npt bungs welded in my tank. I was unhappy with the 1/4npt tank vent from Ricks.

It is a little late to weld a new bung..
Not sure what to do at this point?? But I have to do somthing cause it leaks like crazy...
Thanks
ETA: What about pluging the vent and switching over to a vent gas cap?? Is that possible??

Not that much track testing 'yet' but the above piece is very nice and solved the issue I'm sure. The little fuel filter never worked for me.

I busted out the check valve that was in the gas cap that came with my Rick's tank. Unfortunately I haven't put any miles on it to report if it works.

That's what she said...hahaha back to the regularly scheduled program. I really like the breather that James is running. I will probably end up doing the same for my fuel and differential.

I think my tank has a 5/16 vent line..
Sound right??

That is part of your problem. With a vent line that is to small, excess pressure can build pushing fuel out the vent hose. If you bought it from DSE, call them and let us know how they vent a tank.

Just talked to Mark at DSE..
He said this is what they do..
Use a small piece of soft line to join the vent nipple to hard line. The hard line then goes straight up as far as it can go, then back down till its level with the nipple, then a 90 toward the back of the car.
He said that they also put a "fuel vapor check valve" at the end of the hard line..
I called around and cant find this "fuel vapor check valve" so I called him and he going to go find one or a part number for me..
I will let you guys know what he says when he calls me back..
Thanks

I got a call back from Mark at DSE and he got me the info.. The part they use is a motorcycle part. I think it is one of the valves that are on the breather hoses on dirt bikes..
He gave me the part number but it is at home. If anyone wants it send me a PM..
I ordered them and they should bee here soon.
I will let you guys know how it works out..
Thanks

Hey Skeeter when you get a chance mind posting that Part # here? Case others have the same issue? (That way its searchable).
Thanks!

I did it like DSE said with the valve..
Finished it yesterday and filled it to the brim with fuel.. Didn't notice any fuel smell but had the windows closed and it was raining..
I will let you know when I fill it up if the milage is any better and if there is any fuel smell or spotting from it leaking..

Have someone follow you and toss it around some corners if it's 'not' fixed they'll see fuel coming out.

What do you mean by toss it around some corners???
Are you implying that I do somthing dangerous on public roads??
Right on I am all over that!!!!!!!!!!!:bananna2:

I'd go with the setup John Parsons posted earlier in the thread. I plan to do so soon.
