      g body 4 bar help

We have a 84 monte that we are planning on doing some drag racing and spirited driving with. We are planning on running heim joints with radius bars in place of the stock rear control arms. Since they are a lot cheaper than the aftermarket adjustable control arms. My question is with the panhard bar. Which side of the frame should it go on to maximize bite at launch and the best to support the rearend. Any and all help would be appreciated. Also pics would be great thanks brandon

Heim joints on all the rear control arms in a g-body with a panhard bar would be a recipe for binding.

I have seen them sell tubular lowers with heims. I am just doing the same with the tops. And adding a panhard bar. How do you think that they will bind. Anybody else want to help me out.

well i have a set of Art morrison/Gazan tubular control arms for a G body sitting around..there are meant to be used on a ford 9 inch , the uppers are adjustable, the lowers are not,..you have to weld ears to the top of the 9inch, and I have a set of lakewood slapperbars to go with em, works well..anyway will get rid of them for cheap..if interested let me know

As to your question: You can mount the Panhard either way. Doesn't make any difference at the dragstrip.

      are you talking about a stock-style converging 4-link (c4l) or a parallel-link 4 bar?

if stock style c4l: you don't need a panhard bar, the upper bars locate the axle laterally. SC&C has a watt's link bolt-in deal that will control the axle better than upper arms ever could.

if a 4 bar: you can use heim joints and you will not have binding, but you'll then need either the panhard bar or watts link.

      C4L + Heims + PHB = BIND-O-MATIC

Seriously. Do a little research into the kinematics and it`ll be obvious. Or give a quick call and I`ll be happy to explain it to you. Basically two different methods of lateral axle location (UCA/PHB) with totally non compliant pickup points. You could use heim lowers and stock uppers with rubber bushings for compliance then use a really long high mounted (to reduce RC conflict)PHB to control lateral axle movement but still wouldn`t be ideal.
