I need help please, I was close to getting my 79 camaro going until I began to put my steering components back on and relized my stock pitman arm hits my altenator. I put a steering gearbox off a late 80's iroc in my car. When I bought it it came with a pitman arm that has a drop on it, that might work if I remachine the taper the other direction on it. The rest of the steering would also have to drop, I guess the idler arm also ? I don't know if others on here have run into this. I don't know alot about steering geometry or everything else on these forums for that matter, most of the cars on here are so awesome and people are so knowledgable. I am a rookie trying to learn,so I am looking for some guidence. Thank you for any help.Dan

I'm no expert on steering geometry either...might it be easier to relocate your alternator than to re-engineer or modify your steering?

Good luck,
Paul

I had the same issue, it looks like you have a LS-engine? I have a
LS1 with the brp mount kit. Is what i did wad cut a slot in the case of the alternator for the pitman stud to pass threw.. it does look like your is closer than mine is? what mounts did you use?

Yes, I probably should try to relocate my altenator. I was hoping there was some way I could fabricate components to lower the steering down a little. I made my own motor mounts over winter holidays and had the motor in and out several times but did not have the altenator on or the steering box . I should have I might have forseen this problem. Thanks for writing.Dan
