I don't really have a good picture at the moment but I think straight 18's fit these G bodies pretty well... Also you're tire selection for 27ish inch tall tire is better at 18 than 19 or 20 I think.
You'll have to ignore the trailer (it was the only side shot I had) but here is mine.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Another shot that shows the rear wheelwell.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif Hmmm imageshack isn't cooperating for some reason, here is a link to the same picture on my flickr page:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/carguykeith/6330369396/ (http://<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/carguykeith/6330369396/" target="_blank">http://www.flickr.com/photos/carguykeith/6330369396/</a>)
Though I do have to admit that first GN with 18 /20's looks damn nice...

Looks like you are going the route I did for front brakes, if you're not in a hurry Flynby has the bracket and hubs for this swap HERE (http://flynbye.com/catalog/i61.html) and HERE (http://flynbye.com/catalog/i137.html). Which is what I'm running and couldn't be happier for the price.

I like your body cart. How is the body resting on it? It looks like the pinch is inside of the 4X4 beams.
CruizinKev
07-11-2012, 08:29 AM
thx Bernie! body sits on the rockers/sills on the body cart. I wanted clearance underneath so I can silde in the frame like you see now on the pics. used a lot of heavy hardwork/screws/nuts to make it solid. had no metalrails laying around to weld a body dolly so I used that way with some wood girder

Did you notch the frame or are you planning to? I know you talked earlier in the thread about mini tubbing....how are you gonna make a 295 fit?
CruizinKev
07-16-2012, 09:41 PM
didn't notch it yet. will see if I have to very soon. maybe I'll stretch the fender/fender lips and make it fit without frame notching. yeah I wanted 295 with the 18" wheels but now I went with 285/30-20 on a 20x10" rim for the rear.
CruizinKev

today's update. test fitted my 20x10 wheel and oh well it looks SWEET!!!! :yeah:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/07/IMAG0447-1.jpg
brought body back on frame, put the stock rear end back on and tested the wheels again - wheel rubs bad on inside of the frame. will try a wheel adapter to make it fit but maybe will also notch the frame a little. but will test with a adapter first.

That combo looks great with the Monte's lines. Have you rolled the fender? This will gain some room with the spacers.
CruizinKev
07-18-2012, 04:46 AM
thanks! yeah will roll the fenders later. will try some 20mm adapters/spacers on each side first - maybe it'll work without notching the frame. will be easier for me to only stretch the fender lips a little. kinda like that:

Damn those doors look rough. Are you going to fix them or try to find new doors?
They look close to Coys but possibly better that's the look I want on my Malibu.. Low with deep lips !!

Yeah I figured that might be an issue. Good luck, I think it's definately fixable it will just take some time. Go slow when you weld it up with it being such a broad panel.

thanks Bernie!
so I test fitted H&R 20mm adapters/spacers on each side today. for first on fronts - now the front wheels clear the C5 calipers :yeah:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/08/IMAG0529-1.jpg

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/08/IMAG0532-1.jpg
so I tried the 20mm spacer on the rear and it looked like this:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/08/IMAG0548-1.jpg
I think it looks okay and clears the frame now - but I think I want 30mm spacers now :) just added some washers to simulate a 30mm spacer:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/08/IMAG0560-1.jpg
Please note there's no weight/interior/doors/engine in the car so thats why the suspension is pretty high right now LOL
oh and here's another cool shot (with 20mm spacers):

Looking good! Good eye on those wheels. I too run a spacer (with longer studs) to get the 9.5 wheel off of my frame. With the body lines the wheels looked 'sucked in' real easy so pushing them out give a wide, grounded stance.

today I cut my rear fender lips a little. the stock lips are about 1" wide.

at the moment I'm thinking to get another set of lowering springs from OPGI but with 3" lowering... what do you think!?
My advice is not to.. The ones I tried were way too soft.. The stance looked good, but the ride wasn't. I've tried a few things in the rear and right now I'm running 2" drop springs from an A-body but plan to go to a coil over setup for great control over the ride.
CruizinKev
08-19-2012, 01:42 PM
ok and which coil over setup you suggest? QA1? ridetech?
carguykeith
08-19-2012, 03:56 PM
Another option if you want is to go with f-body springs and isolaters. Then you can just trim to the drop height you would like.
One thing to consider though is that around 3" of drop you really should adjust your rear suspension geometry to compensate. I found the lower rear control arm relocation brackets and adjustable uppers to work great in my case.
Details if your interested are in my build thread.

Not sure yet... I'm looking into this now. SicMonte used Ridetech and had good things to say.. but I'm looking at all of the options. DSE makes a nice set too, but is up there in price.

thanks guys for input! well I stay with my current setup n maybe will switch to coil-over later when the car is all together n running.
I removed the rear springs yesterday and set the car's height to what I want the ride height later. I wanted to see if it'll fit with the trimmed fenders lips and the 30mm spacer. Looks like I just need to roll the lips now and I'll be set.

if I calculated it right the rear wheels along with the spacers are at 110mm (4.3") of backspace / offset -30. want to get 245/35-20 for fronts.

Wow Kevin! Just took the time to go through the whole thread....definitely dedicated! The wheel choice was the proper one by the way!!!!Also, if you haven't thought about this yet, with all the stuff you have going on with your wedding coming up and everything, the sig pic you use, the way it has the chrome molding going over the roof for the landau option, you should put that on your car, and paint the front part of the roof a gun metal or Nissan GTR code KAB silver! Would break up the car just enough IMO.......it is a 3 stage silver that looks like stainless steel....

monte's still waiting for buddy's new garage to move in. in there we finally can start with the body (cut, weld and primer). here's a pic of last weekend.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2013/08/IMG20130821WA0000-1.jpg
now I need your thought on this. since I love the 77 Trans Am and their shaker hood scoops, I thought to add one on my monte carlo hood.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2013/08/scoop0-1.jpg
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2013/08/scoop1-1.jpg
the 77 scoops also got the sharp edge on top that would match to the monte carlo hood..
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2013/08/hood0-1.jpg
here's a newer monte carlo with a t/a shaker.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2013/08/hood3-1.jpg
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2013/08/hood4-1.jpg
I'd try to make it to a functional air intake for the stock LS3 intake - depending on clearance between hood and engine..
what do you think?

Honestly, I love Kevin's (The other Kevin with that 4th gen above) car with a shaker scoop, but I really think that adding one to your car would ruin the "flow" of the body. It would take away from the "swoosh"! :)

With the T56, why not 4.11's? Also if you're going to go 9" I'd be looking at full floaters, like this: http://www.speedwaymotors.com/9-Inch-Ford-Housing-with-Metric-Brackets-58-Inch-Hub-to-Hub-Width,25595.html
Otherwise you could just pick up a stock 8.5" 10 bolt and throw some 28 spline bolt in aftermarket axles and call it a day.
Nice score on the LS3 btw, that's definitely what i'd be putting in my rig if I were to do it all over again today.
