current projects, rework the whole car, rebuild frame/suspension. Body will be painted something like gunmetal (dark grey)..

..unfortunately its over a year now I had to stop work on it because of money issues... but I hope this year I can start again.
Like said before, want to rebuild everything. Want a clean & smooth car - good suspension, good brakes and a nice look..
CruizinKev
03-14-2009, 06:53 PM
..something like that I want it to look like.. but not black car - mine should be gunmetal..

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/03/quickchop-1.jpg
I also got a full Vortech V2 s-trim kit laying here, originally it was for my 1998 Ford Mustang 3.8 V6 (my daily).
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
I just wanted to get rid of the vortech kit but now it let me think to put it on the MC.
I'm also thinking about a manual transmission swap. Thought about a T5 because I'm here in GERMANY and there's not much I can choose from. Some friends are into Mustangs and got a T5 laying.
Anyone used the Quicktime RM-6064 bellhousing?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120299551342
Want to know if it works smooth to use a Ford T5 on a GM engine with that bellhousing..
Okay so far,
feel free and post your thoughts and suggestions!

Will that Vortech give enough boost for the ?
yeah it will! I saw a lot other cars (GM & Fords) only with the same vortech s/c on it making a lot of power.. okay also depends on what pulley size you running..

I just looked around for ideas what to do with the interior.. especially with the dash/gauge-cluster.. and found this:

It's a 1960 Impala dashboard. Makes me want to do that for my Monte Carlo. I think it'll look good with some Autometer gauges and a few other mods :)

never been a fan of the late 70's montes though I almost bought a 78 as a first car but decided against it due to the car being on the wrong side of town and the odometer going over twice the photoshop looks though

Wow what a cool project man. I give it up to you guys cause not only are parts for these cars hard to find over there... they are expensive when you do. I laugh when I see guys getting Baer brakes and think that they are just down the road from me about 15 minutes. Did you buy those used? Good luck!
CruizinKev
03-29-2009, 10:03 AM
thx man! :)
yeah parts are kinda expensive - I can buy all parts in the US but shipping is pain and the german customs. Yeah the Baer brakes came off a fox mustang..

okay its been long but I'm back into this project.
No progress yet but I'm looking to get a manual transmission for it. Looking for a T5 but VERY hard to find over here in Germany.
Anybody knows where I can find any T5s online (in US)? Or any thoughts about the 4 speed muncie? Found a few 4speeds on german market so I thought about these options. I can get them for cheap and later I can swap it for a T5 when I can find one.....

Hey, Kev! Good start on your Monte! I'll hafta keep you posted on my 80 Cutlass project. I just finished gutting an early 90's Oldsmobile Toronado Trofeo for it's seats mainly...the fronts are 12-way adjustable with controls in the door panel and center console....back, butt, lumbar inflations, forward/backward/tilt/, etc...weird but really cool! The seats look killer andf the back seats have integrated headrests and armrest. And, the shoulder restraints in the back are in the rear package shelf...nice. It's all a dark grey/charcoal leather interior. I also was in the car long enough to pull the control wiring for the daytime headlights, auto-dimming rearview mirror, dual power mirrors and power window wiring. Theh amount of wiring and related hardware (under the freakin console no less) for the power seats was crazy! Anyway, plans are for a 2nd gen. Camaro console already being modded for the Trofeo power window switch, 3rd gen. fbody power mirrors, a StealthRam equipped TPI witih an LS1 ECM interface control, 4L80E, blah blah and 14" Caddy brakes all around. I have a lot of the parts and have been working on a lot of drawings, color schemes, etc. Not a lot of us gbody fab guys around so we'll have to keep in touch. My big kicker is the water fuel assist I have been working with that will find its way on this car...I'm making some stainless fuel cell plates right now for a custom enclosure-should be fun. You got my email address, drop me a line on your progress! Later!

Kev, what are your plans on mating that dash board to the car? That is gonna look sweet!
CruizinKev
01-03-2010, 07:26 AM
thanks guys!
Jay, I'll just do it step by step like you can see here:
https://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15561
Take out old dash take measures and cut the 59/60 dash to make it fit. I think shouldn't be that hard to get it in.
But first will do the frame and suspension, then motor and later on the body and finish her with the interior. Coming spring when weather gets warmer here in Germany I'll start with rewelding/boxing frame - maybe minitub if needed to fit the rear rims

I'm first genertion dutch over here, both my parents came from Holland, Emmen and Coevorden to e exact. I've been over many times and speak a little dutch as well.

Kevin - Project looks like fun, as far as the fenders I loved what GM did with the G8 fenders before they did away with the Pontiac line -
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/04/2009pontiacg8gxp_460x0w-1.jpg
not a super wide body flare but i can see where it might be sweet on your Monte Carlo - the bottom of the G8 slopes back in a little like your Monte :bsjerk:

Thx Don! yeah the G8 looks good. really would like to get one for the new daily :) but at the moment I think my next will be a truck.
I know what you mean about the fenders but I think I'll do it like the pics I posted before. but lets see how much work I need to do on fenders.. for first I need to do the rolling chassis anyways..
so here the pics of today's work!

I pulled the engine few hours ago and I must say it was easy going for my first time doing that. next step is pull the chassis out the barn, finish the body dolly and roll the body further in the barn so I got more room to play :) will look around for a sandblaster for my frame and so on...

I had to deal with that same stuff on my malibu. Its a pain and I wouldn't want to do that again. took me about 10 hours just to get the front clip where i wanted to be.
What I did towards the end is to take like engine degreaser and spray it on the undercoating stuff then let it sit for about 15 min or so then go back and scrape it off. It comes off a little easier then when it was dry

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/08/Foto0384-1.jpg
One of the pre owners did some "repairs" and covered with bondo and undercoating. well I think I have to replace that section.
Already found a good site for replacements:
http://www3.sympatico.ca/conradlozier/
Fortunately the rest of the frame is good and only needs to be boxed and some rewelding of the factory welds.
Anyways I'll sandblast the frame this week, finally! Next weekend I'll test fit my rear wheels (18x9.5 with 295/35) and will see how much work need to do on notching rear frame section.

Now at the moment I'm thinking about to galvanize/zincing the frame so it'll be 100% forever rustfree...
John Wright
08-16-2010, 03:31 AM
Be aware that hot dip galvanizing will most likey warp your frame...just a note. The galvanizing bath is 850°F
CruizinKev
08-16-2010, 06:21 AM
yeah I heard about that. there different ways to do it but don't know what to do. maybe just paint few coats por15 and their chassis coat black and be fine. and for the frame cavity just corrosion protection wax.
John Wright
08-16-2010, 06:29 AM
Maybe you can find a good zinc-enriched primer to use. We use that on our structural steel instead of galvanizing. I had two gate posts painted with just that primer (no top coat)probably 20 years ago and the posts still look freshly painted. Then use a compatible epoxy top coat and I bet it will out live you.

Some of that cold galv. compound is better than others....the better products have 94-97% zinc....you'll know if you have the right stuff, because the can is very noticably heavier than any other spray can you might pickup.

Still waiting for the frame rail parts to receive so just smaller progress. Pulled out the dash and will work later today on the 1959/60 Impala dash to fit in. Lets see how that'll work  Also will work on the pedals, will have to fit the aftermarket t56 clutch pedal to the stock automatic pedals of the monte..

You will love the Classic Instruments, we just put a set in the 63 F100. One thing we did was replace the stock bulbs with LED'S for a nice soft Blue light. The stock one's are just a plain yellow looking light when turned on.

Sorry to thread jack but I got a quick question. My car is also black but with a red interior. Would you go black car with the black wheels and chrome lip or black car with chrome or polished wheels? My car has limited chrome too about as much as yours Kevin;mine is primarily around the glass and I've removed the wheel well trim.
CruizinKev
04-09-2011, 01:30 PM
George I like both. But at the moment I'm looking for full polished ones because a lot of cars here in Germany got black rims with polished lips..
Today I finally got back working on the monte carlo. Last weekend I already received the frame back and so I started painting POR15 today. I'll coat it with few coats of POR15 "Rust Preventive Paint" and finish it with POR15 "Chassis Coat Black".

Question what part of Germany are located in, I am in france and plain on heading to germany in about 10 days if i get lucky and would love to check your ride out in person, and I say go with the black 15 inch Rally's they would look great especially if u tinted your windows. Solvent? So you are not currently walking around with a por15 paint job on your face and arms? This solvent removed cured por15 or did you do the "oh crap.. wipe it off before it dries" method? I spilled 1/4 can all over my crotch and hands last December. I was in the Army at that time and didn't want to look ate up for formations. I used Omph!, rubbing alcohol and sand paper to get enough of it off my hands to be presentable in formation. The stuff is water reactive and cures when exposed to water. Hot water and sink did me no good LOL.
If you have a method to get the stuff off let me know. Every time I use it I get it all over me. The harder I try to not get it on me the more I actually get on me.
That green Malibu is so cool...makes me want to get mine done right now!
The body lines of your 79 Monte Carlo are awesome! I like the photoshop with the Coy's 5 spokes the best so far. The dog dish caps are cool too and really seem to be in style now. The Monte is so classy though I think it would look really cool with a mesh wheel like one of Forgeline's offerings. I'm thinking charcoal gray centers and brushed aluminum rims would look great against the black.

Joe maybe you can ask Jeff about the following:
looks like I ran into a problem with boxing my frame - the BRP T56 crossmember looks like it doesn't fit anymore because I closed the c-chanel of the frame. I looked at the instructions because I still don't have the LS1 in hands to check fitment with just the engine and transmission. instruction says I have to drill new holes to get the crossmember fit. so looks like the passenger side goes onto here something like that:

is that right?
ok so the other side SHOULD go in the c-chanel right?

Great project and progress to this point. Don't lose focus as there is a finish point. You have been doing such great work on it. I know life gets in the way some times. Trust me I know that for sure.
I say stick to the wheels and tires you have on hand already as it will look sick. Then if you decide to go larger later then you can. Really like the dash! Should look outstanding when completed.

What's your plan for the rear brakes? LS1 Camaro rotors, mounts, and abutments with Corvette calipers work sweet for keeping the internal parking brake. They're basically a bolt-on, and give you the same size rotor as a Corvette anyway :smoke: Kore3 brackets on 98-up S10 Blazer spindles are tough to beat for the fronts.

well I don't know about the rear brakes yet. I just wanted to buy the C5 front calipers but the seller didn't want to split the front from the rears so I had to buy all 4 calipers. like said before I don't know much about the rear brakes. Can I use the C5 rear calipers with my stock 7.5" rear end? is there a conversion bracket or something available? so its also possible to use the same stuff for a 8.5" rear end - just in case I'll get a 8.5" in the future?

You could use either the 7.5 or the 8.5 with those calipers. Their the same calipers I have on my regal.
