Anyone else run into this problem? I have the TC hybrid kit, and while trying to get some wheels, it seems there isn't room for the brakes. If this is so- then why do I keep seeing 17" TTIIs (of 4.75 and 5.5" BS) on so many cars?????

I'm working with Howard at Newstalgia to get some Billet Specialties Rebels & we ran into this problem while trying to go with a 17x9.5 (5.5 BS) for the front. Anyone run something similar? I've looked at the wheel chart, and things don't add up.

PLEASE POST PICS & SPECS OF YOUR SETUP (17" sizes); ANYTHING FROM 7" WIDE TO WHATEVER.

When I sold a Baer GT kit to Herb Lumpp for his 66 El Camino,he had to change from 17" to 18" wheels. Something about the C5 calipers causing lots of clearance problems with 17's.

My Centerline 17X9.5" clear with about 1/100" left. It is hit and miss. Some 17's will clear the C5's and some won't.

Understood- It's a drop-center problem. Is it just that these brakes are that much taller than the Baers using the C4 style caliper? I know they are, but I think something is still amis here...

Yes, there is a huge difference in the overall caliper height between the C5 and C4 calipers. There are quite a few guys running 13" C4 set-ups.

Yep- knew that, too. I measured a set of Budinks and a set of BS wheels with the same drop centers; it looked like it was going to fit no prob.

Billet Specialties was told that you have to use a 17x8 with a 4" bs to get them to fit on a 68; anyone with that combo?

I just finished installing the TC C5/Hybrid kit as well. I have 17" TTIIs (17x7 - 3.95" bs) and have about 1/8" clearance between the caliper and wheel.

Did you pick up the C5 calipers from TC as well? They mill the fins off the calipers they sell with their kit for add'l clearance. Stock C5 calipers would not fit with my TTIIs.

Are you running the 12 or 13" rotors?

I have a 13" with C5 caliper and I am just starting to look for rims and tires. Would 18" rims ne a better option or are they too large( rough ride )?

Any pics or specs would help.

My TC kit uses a 13" C4 rotor in front & 12" in rear. With that combo an 18" tire would definitely give more clearance w/a C5 caliper. I don't know about the ride quality of an 18".

I am running the TC Hybrid kit on my 68 bird and everything fits fine. Running 17 x 8 Budnik Gasser D's, not a lot of room between the face of the wheel and the caliper but it all fits and no rubbing.

What is the "TC" place everyone keeps talking about?

I am looking to install a set of C5 brakes front and rear on my newly purchased 55 Chevy Bel-Air , and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks ,

How much of a difference is there between the c4 and c5 calipers?
Just wondering because at speed-tech they sell a bracket to mount the vette brakes.. Could you just grind off the caliper to get clearence or is it just to much?

Here's a comparision shot of the C4 & C5 calipers on TC's site. The C5s are obviously larger.

Well- I mocked them up, and they fit a 17x8 TTII that Howard at Newstalgia Wheel sent me as a test fit; The Billet Specialties Rebels I'm going to use use the same style drop center, so good deal. Pics of the fit & clearance shortly...
