lots of different factors, how much hp/tq, stock transmissions? What years did they come out of? Rear end gear ratio?

I'm alittle biased of the th400 mainly because I have 2 shop trucks that keep eating 700's alive (82 6.2L diesel chevy and 93 5.7L gas chevy). The 82 now has a th400 in it and no more problems. The silverado I keep putting the 700 in because I love the overdrive. It has 4.88's in the rear and I can't drive it over 60 comfortably. I couldn't imagine if I had put a th400 in it. It's all about how you are gonna drive it and your personal preference. For track use I'd opt for the th400. If you are gonna do more cruising I may lean slightly towards the th400 if you don't mind losing an overdrive gear

i liked the way the th400 ran with my other 350 but i am installing a fresh built 355 with forged internals that will blow away the power of the old hunk that i had, and i have a heavy foot so the th400 is probably the way im going to go, when i install the 355 450hp/485ftlbs do u recommend any stall converters?? and what range?? thanks again-dom

There's lots of guys on here that'll be able to help you more than me on this factor. There are tons of things you have to know before anyone can recommend a stall. Vehicle weight, cam, rear gear, transmission, hp, displacement, carb/injector size, and i think a few other things maybe? But being able to recommend the perfect torque converters is more of an art than knowledge.. lol.

I'm not a big fan of the 700R4 transmission, but I am a strong supporter of overdrive transmissions in pro-touring cars. If you want a car that does it all, overdrive should be near the top of your "modern performance" wish list or do list--especially with 4.10 gears.

So given the choice of those two transmissions, I prefer the 700. BUT! I would want to know the history and condition of the 700R4 trans. What kind of car did it start life in? Has it been rebuilt? Upgraded? If it's a decent transmission, then you need to thoroughly understand TV cable function and set up. The right TV cable kit will help your 700 live.

As for a converter, if you live in Mastic, you are close by. Regardless of trans choice or engine specs, I'll be glad to help you pick out the perfect converter. Give me a call.
      /Steve
