Popping off an outer tie rod

Is there a trick to convincing an outer tie rod to let go of a steering arm on a '67 Camaro?

I have some short steering arms I want to swap in, and I would rather not trash the brand new tie rods.

Is it a mainly a matter of smacking it hard enough?

sure, on the boss of the spindle that the tie rod end stud goes through,,pop it hard and sharply on the side without hitting the tie rod or the stud going through spindle boss. sometimes it takes 2 or 3 good hard hits but the tie rod will fall right out and you dont have to use one of those forks that damage the rubber on the ball of the tie rod and stud.
