      Gulstrand Mod = Taller Spindles?

Does the Gulstrand modification equate to the same benefits as a taller spindle?

Is there any place to still buy the ATX tall spindle?

If not, what other tall spindle is out there for a First Gen. Camaro?

      Appreciate any feedback given.

      Thank you

In a short answer... no, it does not equal the same benifits as a correctly designed spindle.

ATS is still operating... and Tyler is still taking orders.

Prefered option would be the ATS / AFX spindle and Tyler can use our support.

Other option would be to contact Marcus at SC&C. They sell taller balljoints, which in combination with the Guldstrand mod can give similar results.

I don't think the tall spindles should be combined with the Guldstrand mod. They both serve the same purpose.

Also, one have to consider the different tall spindle options. While a B-body spindle will pretty much correct the camber curve, bump-steer will be worse than with the stock spindle. I'm not sure, but perhaps the Baer trackers tie rod ends can help with the bump steer if using the B-body spindle...

The AFX spindle is the best (and most expensive) option though.

Heidt's also has a taller spindle, but I could only find the one with a 2" drop. I think there is a stock height version though. Try contacting them by phone.

That's why SC&C has the Taller BallJoints in several lengths and wants to know if you did the Guldstrand mod or not. As said; Taller Balljoints with or w/o the GSmod can give similar results. It's a more cost effective way with similar results but not the best nor the nicest option.

when you do the G mod, you can also move the mounting point back a bit to help get more caster out of it, for which you will have to get different upper arms to do if you go with the taller spindle option.
the G mod is so cheap and so easy to so- and it allows you to keep your stock parts and spend more money on other parts of the car. that's kind of important to broke people like me that don't need to get the absolute most out of my car that i can. and besides- the stock control arms and spindles with the G mod was good enough for the Trans Am racers back in the 60's, so it's more than good enough for 99% of the people out there today.

It's the LAST thing the show touring industry wants to hear but you're on the mark. 5L, steel block and heads. 3000#. 8.5"/ 9.5" Hoosier TDs. stock suspension. The good ones will PULL YOUR LIPS OFF. Folks should remember that while their saving up for a new pair of (insert pro-touring gizmo).

EDIT: I'm in no way specifically referring to Tyler's spindles.

I just received my AFX spindles from Tyler last week. Very nice pieces.

      Ever read this sticky?

      AFX Spindles

I have left both PM's and Voice Mail for Tyler, so hopefully I'll hear something back. His website indicates he's on back order for the taller spindles, and his voice recording says they switched to part-time but will be returning phone calls.

We'll have to see what happens.

Why wouldn't a taller ball joint on a aftermarket upper control arm, such as a Global West Unit, improve both the camber and caster? I'm by no means an expert here, but a taller spindle or taller ball joint bolt would seem to accomplish the same thing, by spreading the distance between the tips of the upper and lower control arms..??

Has anyone installed taller ball joints on aftermarket control arms? I'm a little concerned about Marcus's control arms and durability for road use. There's a lot of bolts/adjustments built into those things.

Threads stripping out, bolts breaking, just kinda makes me nervous.

Talk to Marcus and please read about these arms. There's more than enough info on them both here and on Lateral-g.net. I'm quite convinced you will find your worries ungrounded.

You can also find quite some good info on SC&C's site.
