Hello, I am building a 1979 Malibu and have a few questions about the fuel system. I want to run a factory style fuel tank but must have constant fuel supply or else (turbo BBC). I have read about the fuel cells and all that and do not like the look of a big square box hanging down in the back. I also want a trunk that is useable. Is there some type of fuel pick-up that I could build or sump that I could make to keep fuel to the engine during braking, acceleration, and cornering G's? I will not spend the money to have a custom fuel tank made, 1000 bucks is a bit much for me.

Thanks,
Ryan

I was wondering the same thing. Hopefully someone will chime in.

This is what I've found so far.

I was going to mention the dropped tank sumps but I guess that is the big square box you don't like to see hanging down.

I tried... nevermind.......

Well not really, the big box I do not like is something like the fuel safe cells that hang down. A sumped tank would be fine but I do not see how that would contain enough fuel to keep the pump supplied in cornering. Maybe it would, that would be an easy fix.

This is a set up for a Mustang but the same thing can be done to just about any tank.

If this motor is going to require a large fuel system (As I would assume it would) then you really should think hard about a sump.

Those big pickups are fine but I would not use them over 400 ish HP that's me though. That said I've used the stock system up to that power level N/A. It was undersized but I had no problem with the pump having to suck out of the tank while running a small suction filter. In a forced induction set up I would not want to take any chances on going lean so err on the side of caution and sump your tank is my advise.
