I'm working on a 4l60e in my neighbors Tahoe, just pulling the pan and checking condition of fluid and filter because the trany was slipping badly. What I found was dark fluid with enough really fine metal particles to make the fluid look like a great metal flake paint job, and metal shavings in the bottom of the pan, about a table spoon fulls worth. My question is some of the metal shaving look like 1/8" needle bearings, and idea which part of the system this come out of? I know the trans is toast but this would help decide on rebuild or replacement. Thanks

The 1/8" needle bearings could come from any of the bearings, but he most common is the rear planet bearing. Which will usually wipe out the rear planet, sun gear & ring gear.
