I was told that a Ls2, say out of a '06 GTO, originally equipped with an automatic trans, the crank is not drilled for the pilot bearing for a manual trans. Is there any truth to this and if so what are the fixes?

Thanks

I've never heard of that.... I've never really looked but ive bought engines that were from autos and put manuals behind them, no issues. Ive never heard of any ls1 cranks being different because of a pilot bearing. The only difference in any crank i know of is the LS4 crank which is 13mm shorter on the front and 3mm shorter on the rear.

The pilot bearing isnt pressed into the flywheel? I thoguht it was. I cant remember now its been a while since i had my trans off. I know that you CANNOT use the grease/wet bread method to get it out. there is a freeze plug directly behind the pilot bearing and you WILL push the freeze plug into the block.

since those cars could be had with a six speed or auto trans I doubt they'd spec different cranks for the two, wouldn't make sense.

I was thinking the same thing but I don't know much about a ny of the LS motors.

Thanks to you both for your help!

I cant imagine that its true. I have a truck 6.0 that you could not get with a manual and the pilot bearing went right in.
