I'm installing a 4L80E into my '67 Firebird and I'm having an interference issue with the factory shifter linkage. The bottom arm of the shifter is hitting the rear sensor boss on the trans. I'd like to keep the factory shifter and it looks like I might be able to either bend or cut the arm and possibly redrill the hole in the arm for the rod. Anyone solved this issue before? Thanks.

From the looks of the picture, it would be better to space/bend the arm outward. Relocating the hole would probably change the motion ratio resulting in one or more selector positions not reaching. For example, it could be difficult to engage park. Also grind the corners off the arm to gain as much clearance as possible. Double check pinion angle before proceeding as it may be possible to move the tail shaft down slightly--Not likely, but worth a check.

I removed the arm and added about an inch of angle to it and it seems to work fine now. Thanks all.

Awesome. Yeah, 80's generally require a wee more massaging that 60's.
