The one thing that drives me nuts is when the core support is painted body color and gleams from behind the grill. I see it mostly on tri-5 but have seen it on a number of camaros. I do like when the fender wells, firewall, and core support all match color. If you had to have it body color then paint it black on the front and body color everywhere else.

What drives you guys you guys nuts when looking at cars?

tail pipes sticking straight out the back of a car. Ugh.... tail pipes should be heard and not seen. But I totally hear you on the grill thing. it really detracts from the look of a car.

The above two are good ones.

I have a small one to add, but it makes me twitch whenever I see it, especially on a sharp looking car:

Foggy taillight lenses.

Bugs me everytime I see it. Small, easy fix but man....../bug

Oh boy....I see this thread potentially ruffeling a few feathers if the wrong thing is said. Be careful how you say it fellas.

I learned my lesson a few years ago. I posted a story on Camaros.net about a guy who I felt absolutely butchered his SS stripe on his '68 Camaro. I attached a picture of it that I took at the Camaro Street Nationals here in Michigan in 2001. The thing looked like a giant sword going down the side of the car. I also mentioned how this was the one thing that bothered me about Camaro owners were the ones who couldn't get the SS stripe correct when you could buy the damn stencel at Classic Industries for it. After posting the thread and picture in the 'Bench Racing' forum......what followed might go down in history as one of the ugliest 'flamings' in Message Board history. When they got done with me, I was rushed to emergency surgery down at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit to have my ass surgically reattached.

Not trying to rain on your parade or anything, just passing on 'What I've Learned....' :injured:

It drives me crazy when i see a show car and the owner doesn’t know any thing about it. I once saw an early 50's vette with new vette suspension, drive train and wheels and the guy knew nothing about any of the engineering or work put into it. He obviously paid some one to build the car from the ground up and only cared about the day that he took delivery of the car. I’d point something out on the car and ask a question and the guy would either say something that made no since or didn’t have an answer for me. He also said he only drove the thing about 30-50 miles tops per season because "it doesn’t make sense to drive something regularly that has this much money put into it". To me hot rods should be owned by hot roders

I saw something similar at a local show once. This guy had a well built pro-street Nova, and was being asked questions by another guy checking out the car. It wasn't so much that he didn't know anything about the car, but that he was obviously lying about how fast the car was, and doing a bad job at it. The convo went something like this:
"Guy - Nice car!"
"Owner - Thanks!"
"Guy - What have you done to the engine?"
"Owner - I'm not sure, I bought it like this, but the previous owner did some things and it's pretty fast!"
"Guy - Awesome, what does it run in the quarter?"
"Owner - It's a 10 second car"
"Guy - Wow, how fast is that about?"
"Owner - About 145-150mph"

:lmao: at that trap speed.

when people dont do a good job prepping parts under the hood or even the engine bay before painting it. do not paint an engine bay if you cannot sand it down and get it prepped correctly. pressure washing it before you paint it doesnt count. it would have looked better like it was. now its just obvious you did a cover up paint job.

oh and bad wiring. dont do crappy splincing when you convert to HEI or add an MSD box.

spray bomb restorations.
brushed on SS stripes.
5lbs of crap hanging from the mirror.
tail lights, with red transparent tape for the lenses.
one shinny part under the oily, greasy, engine compartment.
the fuel door left open.
driving with their blinker on.
emissions testing.
one wheel burn outs...
three grades of fuel, then theres Sunoco?
a 5 mil driver side plastic window
a mini van passing me
tail pipe attached to car but, detached at muffler.
front wheel drive V8 monte carlo comming soon. can you say torque steer?
hummm...what else

I have a problem with plug wires.

Often you'll see a beautiful car, top notch components, ultra trick everything...and then they drape the plug wires in a careless way, not cut to the proper length, almost as an afterthought...."Oh yeah.....wires...I don't have time....I just want to drive it"...Bugs me real bad!

Noisy tickings and things that squeak that aren’t supposed to. :pat:
most guilty!! :thankyou:

Now that I am off of my car, the exhaust “tips” as well bugs me but it doesn’t end there. For some reason people think that the louder the car is, the faster it seems. This goes for all types of cars including trucks and imports. A nice exhaust note is one that you can speak over without yelling. Unless it is on a true race car, then no mufflers are all the better.

i like the pipes exiting in front of the rear wheels , it evokes the trans am cars . my pet peeves are heartbeat graphics , silk jackets , mirrors on or around a car at show, credit card customs and im getting sick of " bikers " with all the attitude and zero road miles. also anything with choppers in the title . also getting pulled over cause my car looks fast . i stayed off topic and i apologize to anyone who feels targeted . ( i have black rally wheels on my car and that drives the numbers match guys crazy , in fact so does my whole car!

-those cheesy brake dust covers that look like drilled rotors. Usually hiding drum brakes
-SS or Z/28 clones. If it isn't real, leave the emblems off!
-Z/28 stripes on SS Camaros. Unless it was a pace car that is.
-cowl hoods taller than 4", without the engine that requires a cowl hood taller than 4"
-wrong wheel offsets. Stick out too much, or tuck in too far. That bugs me badly!
-the painted radiator support bugs me too. They should always be black.
-Firebird wheels on a Camaro, or vice-versa.
-unpainted body parts. If you put a hood on your car, don't take 6 months to paint it.
-torque thrust II wheels. I wish I had bought stock in American Racing since 9 out of 10 cars have them. Good looking wheel, but overplayed. I even used to want a set!
-seats that do not match the style of the interior. Especially front seats that are not upholstered like the rear seats. Make them match at least.
-gaudy steering wheels. I've seen some very nice cars ruined by taste in steering wheels.

:D

Z-28 stripes done incorrectly especially on the rear deck
rear tires that stick way out the side
air shocks inflated to the maxed with the LONG rear shackle brackets painted silver
a super nice car that the owner just refuses to clean
cowl hoods greater than 4" tall

socalfandabodys
03-01-2005, 06:39 PM
Cars that have the frame, rear end, body, dash, inner fenders, core support and firewall all painted the same color. 20x7 inch wheels on a muscle car with the wrong offset so that the car is still sitting at factory height with tires that are .5 inch tall, mud flaps on muscle cars, flat hoods with a circular hole for a 14 inch air cleaner cut out.

Any car with a profane tune booming at the stop light. I'm thinking about adding electric cutouts to my warlock mufflers to counter these idiots.

Cars who park across 2-4 spaces. I'm always getting on my fellow vette owners for giving us a bad name by doing that.

-"Rats nest" wiring under the hood.
-Miles of that coloured convoluted wire covering.
-Cars with nice paint jobs and an engine compartment that looks like a grease pit.
-Above car with a gungy and/or rotted out undercarriage.
-Canadian built Pontiac Acadians and Beaumonts with Pontiac engines. They left the factory with Chevy engines.

Ghetto rides with 10wide 13 inch rims and a 215/70 13 tire streched on them so you can see the rim bead edge.

Hydraulics Stop killing Impalas please!!!

I also hate the painted core support thing.
I also hate bad looking exhaust systems. I need to fix mine
Ive also seen someone use a nice eclipse head unit with one 6x9 in the rear deck....???/ :hmm:
Plug wires going everywhere. But hard to fix with some headers

The attitudes of the GN and 5.0 Stang guys at the track is horrible but seems to be getting better as the years go by.

I HATE CONVERTABLES sorry but not my thing.

That is wrong. I'm disturbed by this. I must now go and seek counseling.

I have a few too, basically mentioned already:
1) Tire/wheel packages that stick out, I like them inside the fender edge.
2) If I have to go with side exit exhaust, I will use the headers and sidepipes that I think look right (Cobras, Vettes, and 2nd Gen Motion Performance? Camaros had them).
3) Crappy bodywork and panel alignment on a painted car. It bugs me when a generally clean looking car just needed another few hours (sometimes minutes) of attention to detail on panel alignment. I recently saw a mag that had a feature car with misaligned panels and I promptly closed it and put it back on the rack...
4) I don't care if a non-RS or non-Z-28 car uses the stripes, it would be nice though if the stencil kits were used. I have seen some 2nd Gens with slight variations that I believe look better, so I will probably use the stencil kit and then expand on it some on the rear of my 71. I will start and stop the stripes on the panels properly, bit what bugs me the most is that the front stripes follow the contours of the hood really well (expanding as they go towards the windshield, which is what the hood contours do) and sometimes the rear stripes are skinny like the beginning of the front stripe. IMO the rear stripe should start off and stay the same width as the rear edge of the front stripe, sort of a continuity thing for me.
5) Roll cages in cars that have lap belts only. I feel that if you have a cage you should install a nice belt system to minimize the potential of your body flailing around and possibly contacting the cage.
6) People that go to shows to see cars and spend their time spreading negativity instead of focusing on the positives they can find. Not all cars will be perfect for everyone, when I take my son I definitely gush over the 50's-60's cars that are fairly pristine (modified or not), and any muscle car that someone put their heart into to get to the show, even if it has numerous flaws. I tell him to look for the nuggets of wisdom and take them home for future use on whatever we are building.

Mental note - never, ever, ever, f'n ever use the cheep nylon hose that is included with the cheep oil pressure gauge. It does however make a great high pressure shower underneath your hood. FWIW, I’m still getting oil out of crevices that I never knew existed. :slap:

I hate window stickers...
Calvin peeing on anything.
FEER THIS...
Chevrolet trucks with "CHEVROLET" windshield banners. Yea, I know, it's hard to tell between Dodge, Chevy and Ford trucks from over a mile away...
Get in, sit down, shut up and hang on stickers on completely stock vehicles.
Ford Country, where the men are men and the sheep run sceered... (Just kidding) :poke:

I also hate the "over the counter" bolt on, mass produced CUSTOM parts that will make YOUR vehicle totally different from (but the same as) every other yaahoo's vehicle that buys this junk and sticks it to his car...

im an artist with plug wires. forgot to mention how they look like when ran all over. which brings me to other things

red and blue anodized fittings on an engine decked out with chrome. ive actually removed the anodizing to polish the fittings so they would look like crap.

colored plug wires that dont match any other colors under the hood. come on blue wires on an orange engine is lame. i also hate that MSDs only come in red unless you get the helicore blue ones. ive never seen someone using those yet. when i need black i have to use Taylor, which isnt bad, but MSD is much better.

a chrome carb and nothing else. i know some aftermarket models only come in chrome, but if you must at least add a chrome air cleaner or period correct chrome valve covers.

Fuelie Fan
03-02-2005, 06:54 PM
Even worse is the fake anodized fittings that cover up the hose clamp underneath!
Top that off with the fake braid over the radiator and heater hoses and you've got a real show-stopper.

z-28 stripes on 2nd gen novas, everybody seems to do them differently, and 99% of the time it just looks wrong. I used to want them, but not anymore.

slotted rotors/directional tires facing the wrong way. Don't these people have helpful friends?

To expand on the tweed thing, pretty much any interior that is ALL one fabric, texture, and color. No matter how high dollar it was, it looks like the local upholstery shop was just too laxy to use any creativity. Putting stitching in a slightly different pattern (like a lightning bolt! Yeah!) is NOT creative. Street Rods do this the most.

Bad tape lines in an otherwise nice paint job.

Poorly installed stereos.

1. I made my own exaust from 3" tubing, by making "pie" cuts, bending and welding/grinding the joints, and god forbid it exits before the rear axle. total cost $50 bucks plus 3 chamber flowmasters.....im not spending 400 bucks on a kit from flowmaster. In my opinion, thats hot rodding.
2. My plug wires are taylor 8mm dark blue/with a purpleish tint....i guess that looks like crap with my orange small block. BUT they are very well ran, and organized with the Made for you looms.
3. My cars under carrige is kind of grungy....i guess thats what happens when you actually race it and drive it 2000 miles a year, sometimes even in the rain!!!!!

Now for my Pet Peeves
1. somone who talks alot about motors and how somone should build one....and dosent build their own or sort out their own combo.
2. People who spend tons of money for their car to be the "coolest baddest thing" ever....and then they wont drive them.
3. Huge rims and skinny tires on muscle cars.
4. Piss on,no fear, brand name and pretty much any stickers.
5. When people ask you....uhhh when/what color you gonna paint that???
6. The fact that i dont have 10,000 bucks to blow on a paint job
7. When people tell you your stupid for not building your car their way, then tell you its not going to run worth a hoot
7A. Proving them wrong 11 seconds later is sweet revenge
8. When people act too cool for somone who dosent have a small fortune in their ride.
8A. One of the coolest guys i know took {i believe} 3rd in the Detroit Autorama last year with his 41 willy pickup, and ive even seen him drive it!!!!!!!!!!!
Im sure ill think of some more....
Ok i thought of another... my BIGGEST pet peeve is when somone has a great 60's early 70's GTO/Lemans/Firebird, and they pop the hood and theres a bigblock chevy. Good God

"Armed alarm systems at car shows. Who in their right mind is going to try and steel your car at a car show?"

There is a local guy down here in southern california that got his 68 chevelle stolen from a car show. Its a 68 silver chevelle with gear drive he has a $1500 reward out for it. Its sad but alot of people get cars and motorcycles stolen from shows.

Especially in those hard to reach, places that you can't get your hand, sandpaper, or anything else in! Drives me :seizure:
Def don't like to see rust holes just cleaned up and painted, hate that

I agree wholeheartedly!
I also hate excessively large tires/wheels. These are
ESPECIALLY bad on classic musclecars. A 22-inch tire/wheel combo on an late '60's/early '70's Mopar B-Body just does not look right!
Merely my thoughts.

No problem with "sport compact" cars, or people modifying them... but I can't stand the big wing, fart pipe, crazy body effects and often the "I'll beat your a$$" attitude that often seems to come with it.

BWHAHAHAHA! I absolutely HATE those things. They look like cabbage patch kids boo-hooing on your car. Those things are one of the most stupid ideas for displays ever. I saw about three of them at Corvette expo a couple weeks ago.

I've always hated those things too. Makes ya wanna go up to it and give it a "punt".

I'm also not big on:

1) Tons of trophys and crap around a car displayed at a show. I came to the show to see CARS, not tacky displays.

2) People who "follow the herd". Be original and do your car YOUR way, instead of making an exact duplicate of everyone else's. The whole custom chopper fad is a good example of this.

3) Ignorance. I have a Subaru WRX with very simple bolt-ons that runs 13.40's in the 1/4 mile. Nothing makes me feel better than spanking the late model domestic guys who think they are invincable in their bone stock Mustang GT's, Monte Carlo SS's, Grand Prix GTP's, Pontiac GTO's, etc. I just wish that performance enthusiasts would wake up sometimes.

4) JC Whitney add-ons

5) Hand fabricated exhausts that look like my 5 year old make it in our garage

6) 100's of aftermarket sponsor stickers in the back window of a bone stock car

7) When someone does a beautiful restoration (whether fairly stock or restomod) and then they slap on a set of 15" chrome modular wheels on a set of Road Hugger RWL tires (total investment of wheels/tires is about $200).

8) Slapper type traction bars painted bright colors

9) Rear ends that droop (common on older stock Camaros/Mustangs/etc.)

10) Multi-thousand dollar Ford bodied street rods that run a small block Chevy mill.

You know Cody, I was thinking...I don't really have any pet peeves until you mentioned that. I cant stand a fresh motor in an ugly engine compartment. I mean, if you're yanking the motor anyway, would it hurt you to strip and clean everything and buy yourself a new, unspliced wiring harness for god sake??!!! I totally agree with you.
Also, I've been to a lot of auto shows and it seems that everyone builds these bitchin' cars and then gives up by the time the interior comes around. If you take so much time to pick a paint color, cosmetic preferences and a mechanical parts combo, shouldn't the interior be just as important? :spank2:

I basically agree with everything that's already been listed.....but have a few more.

I HATE it when people don't paint the perimeter of 1969 Camaro grilles, body color......they leave them black. Makes the car look like it has a black eye....or you were just too cheap to have it painted.

I also hate stripes that are meant to look factory, but are wrong in their design...i.e., end wrong or wrong size and shape.

I also HATE being asked by EVERY damned person who sees my car (read: lay people) "What year is it?".....as if knowing the year of my 1969 Camaro somehow gives them a point of reference.....

Or they make up some story about....."Hey who's Camaro is that with the big scratch/dent out back?" hardy har har.....as if I'm going to go running to the parking lot to see if my car has been molested...

Or they ask you "How much did that cost you?" Nosey damned people.....

Or, finally, I'll go to the trouble of parking 3 miles from the front door of a store to park all alone in a "safe" place, only to come out and some piece of crap is parked right next to my car......

I have more, but that's it for now........

1) I must admit my #1 pet peeve is also being able to see the radiator support through the grill.
a few more:
2) Any musclecar turned into a 6 foot tall 4X4.
3) Brightly painted suspension or steering parts seen while standing next to car. Just a personal thing...don't mean to offend.
4) Same goes for chrome diff cover on a grimy rear axle.
5) A car with more $$$ spent on the stereo than the rest of the car.
6) A car built with zero reguard to safety.
7) Fish tanks don't belong in cars.
8) Models posing in front or on cars COMPLETELY blocking my view of the ride. Wasn't the car the whole point of the pic in the first place?
9) Listening to people brag that they have to streetrace because the evil track inspector has it out for them. See peeve #6.

2) Clowns who walk up to me at a hangout and ask "Why didn't you Pro Street the car? Y'know--tubs and wheelie bars?"
3) Murphy's Law: If you have four bolts to remove, three will come off easy and one will be stubborn. If there are three bolts total, two will come off easy and one will be stubborn. If there is only one bolt, you don't stand a chance of getting it off easily.
4) More bolt peeves: Painted bolt heads. Black, body color, chrome or stainless. Alternating flourescent red and green is NOT an option!!
5) Guys who walk up to my 68 Camaro with their dates and mumble: "It's a nineteen-sixty-one GTO, I recently sold one just like it--had it for years". Once a girl replied: "How 'come the glove box says Camaro?" :lmao:
6) Punks who try to steal my car and then get all upset when I elbow them in the eye.
7) Speed traps set up in the middle of my favorite early Sunday morning Banzai run.
8) Windshield banners stating the brand of the vehicle. Is it that you need to be reminded what kind of car you drive?
9) Guys with Corvette logo jackets AND lighters AND key fobs AND pen sets AND floor mats AND seat coversAND licence plate frames AND sunglasses.
10) An extremely heavy set mid life crisis individual trying to get in and out of a brand new Lotus Elise--wearing tight jeans.

Also two years ago at the St. Ignace car show(about 3000 show cars)my buddy had his 00 SS Camaro which has Corvette fuel rail covers there, and I swear 50% of the people that walked by were drooling on his car while telling their buddies "oh my god he put a Vette motor in that camaro". I do tend to agree with the first gen firebird with a camaro spoiler... that is why I am going to a '69 Trans Am spoiler on my '68. Keepin it in the family! I am also building a real poncho motor instead of going the Chevy Route.

Here is a little list:
-People who judge me as being a rich kid for having a muscle car in high school... I built it with help from my dad and I paid for it!
-Cars with body pannels that are not aligned correctly
-poor gaps on body panels... I know repo parts suck!
-olds or buicks jacked up into the sky with 24's
-Horrible sounding exhaust systems on trucks... Or lack there of...
-RICERS! I too have nothing against a well built import car. Some of them can RUN very well and handle too! But the fart cans, big wings, and stupid body kits have to go!
-Drifting in fwd cars... or well FWD cars in general
-And one that has been said many times already "store bought" rides... ones that people pay to have built and know NOTHING about the car. It's ok if you're working with DSE or someone like that since you know what you want and they are helping you accomplish the goal.
-Being a college Student without my Firebird at school with me to wrench on and drive...

I think that should do it for now! I've got a lot mroe but they have mostly been covered!

My pet peeve is a beautiful car with exhaust which exits in front of the rear wheels.

Bruce

what's wrong with that? sometimes the suspension makes it a neccessity.

Oh, and I have a cheap radiator cap and I'm damn proud of it! Why spend $100 on something when a $4 part will work flawlessly for years? My car also has dents, the front seats don't match the back seats, and I have a $5 Mr. Gasket breather on my stock valve covers. I also have no wire looms for my plug wires! Oh, the humanity! Everything on my car though, while possibly 'cheap', is tasteful and functional.

My biggest pet peeve in the car world is people with tons of disposable income who are condescending towards people's cars that, although they may function just as well and have just as much hard work put into them, may not have as much money spent on them. People's perspectives get skewed by their budget and they look with disdain on anything that isn't 'SEMA quality'.

Since this thread is never gonna die let me put my foot down here. This thread is for listing pet peeves. Not defending against them. If your car is guilty of having someones "pet peeve" on it, laugh it off. It's that guys opinion, not yours.

Dont want to see this reduced to fighting is all.

That is a beautiful car, but I am still trying to figure out why anybody would sccrew up the lines of a performance vehicle with 4 doors! The 2-door coupes I have always had are much easier for me to get in and out of due to the longer door. The 4-door cars I am in occasionally really bug me both in terms of overall appearance as well as comfort getting in and out. Just my style, but any 4-door always gets dismissed as a loss from me...

One thing I think a lot of some peoples need to realize is some people take their cars to shows when they're not completely finished, so maybe the guy hasn't gotten to changing the weather stripping, or routing the plug wires, etc.

Ok, I guess I'm guilty of a few people's peeves, but that's ok, it's my vehicle
I have TTII on my pickup....not my first choice, but I found them cheap (about half price on ebay) and couldn't pass them up, but I agree they are overdone, but I think that is cause they look good. Oh, then my rear wheels are tucked in too far....it bugs me too but I didn't realize the rear axle was that much narrower than the front...cause my old wheels were different sizes and it didn't cross my mind...I'll get that fixed :)
Next, my exhaust on my truck exits before the rear tires....I like it....at least I have a nice tip on there instead of just a round rusty pipe sticking out

My pet peeves are:
stickers all over the back window....what are you a NASCAR driver?
low profile tires on trucks (I specifically ordered 275/50/17s for my truck....instead of the much more common 275/40/17s)
on a v-8 powered car, having only one exhaust pipe out the back....if it has a v-8, it just needs two pipes on opposite sides of the car (sorry but the 04 GTOs come to mind as a big violator of this rule)
no exhaust out the back when your bumper/fascia has the cut outs for it (picture newer T/As with dumps)
exhaust rattles
bolt ons made specifically for a vehicle that don't work right....I should not have to spend the time to modify something to get it to work if its made for this specific application...it should be easy
all the ricer crap that makes the "look" fast but actually does nothing (I guess that's my definition of ricer anyways)
having to demod your car to take it to the dealership for warranty work :fingersx:
dog slobbers all over the windows of my Tahoe

I have more than a few of these pet peeves on my falcon.

But some of mine are

*Anything made by APC
*Fake HID lamps
*Those cars with huge wheels that are lifted to accomidate them.
*The crybaby dolls
*People Blasting music with foul language at car shows
*Seeing the same "under construction" car at a show two years and running with no changes.

well since i bought another 67 camaro something needs to go. well im not selling my RS/SS or my silverado so my 87 IROC is up for sale. my biggest pet peeve about trying to sell a car is when someone calls and sets up an appoitment to come see it and then doesnt show, and doest call. if you cant make it either dont agree to come on x date at about x time, or at least have the courtesy to call and say hey im sorry but something's come up and i wont be able to come. ive done that in the past when supposed to go look at cars and had a conflicting appointment. at least call and cancel. sorry about the rant

I can't stand when people don't show up. When I was trying to sell my truck last year, this is how it went.

First guy calls up, and says he wants to see the truck, he was going to stop by in a few hours. So I spend the next two hours washing and detailing the truck since it was dirty, and the guy never shows.

The following week another guy calls up and says he wants to check out the truck. I again wash and detail it, only this guy was located right by my college so I told him I'd wait for him after class to check it out. I wound up waiting around an hour after class, and the guy never showed. My commute then went from 35 mins to 1hour becuase I had to sit in bumper to bumper.

Then the third guy was the best, calls up and asks if he can come look at the truck in a few hours. I once again detail it, he comes over takes a look at the truck for about an hour, drives it, and loves the truck. Says he wants to buy it, we agree on a price, shake on it and he says he'll be back on Friday with the money (this was sunday). I call him on Monday and he says he's on the way to the bank to get money for the deposit he was supposed to give me on tuesday. Call him on tuesday and get the same story. Guy never wound up giving me a deposit or buying the truck. I'm pretty sure he was denied on a loan and didn't want to say anything.

Needless to say I got so fed up with the deal, I decided to just keep the truck.

Long ago I was selling a 67RS, I would get 10-12 calls on Sat/Sun, about 2 off all those people would show, I finally told people when ever you get here, they would waste my whole weekend. I was getting pissed, people can be rude.

Here is a tip when selling a car. When people call try to get their name and number before you give them too much information about the car. Don't give TOO much info and try to get them to come and see the car. Explain to them that you are a busy guy and that the car will be shown at a certain time. Pick a 2-3 hour window on a Saturday and tell people to come during those hours. If you end up with several people there at the same time, this can be a benefit and create demand for the car.

Andrew knows his selling! I do exactly the same thing, I schedule all the interested buyers to arrive at the same time. I've sold three cars that way, and typically whoever showed up first bought the car as soon as another interested party pulled into the driveway :)

vintageracer
11-06-2005, 08:03 AM
Setting a "specific" time to look at the car is most important. I guess I have turned into a REAL pain in the but. I will only give a local person 15 minutes on either side of the appointment to show up. If they do not show and I have something else that is meaningless to do, I go do it! I won't spend my day waiting on someone else's schedule when they have a already made a commitment to me.

All it takes is a phone call that you are running late or not coming. Amazing how mad people get when you are not there to show them the car an hour later than the orignal appointment! Somehow they ALWAYS seem to be able to find a phone and call you then!

If the they are not on time to look at the car at the agreed time, they are not a buyer anyway!

I had a 79 280z that we had a guy show up to look at, started the usual pick it apart trying to get us to come down on the price, we werent buying it so we just let him say his piece, well while he was him hawing around another car of about 3 people showed up and were looking all over the car, I guess the first guy got nervous cause all of a sudden it was worth what we were asking and he said he wanted it!! That crap drives me nuts. When I was looking at camaros and GTO's I never once picked the guys car apart, I DID try to get them to bargain a little bit, but I NEVER pointed out all the bad things, Hell I know they know whats wrong with it they own it ahhaha.

When I sold my beater the guy brought his "expert". The guy starts on me about the paint on 1500 dollar car, He keeps telling me there's fisheyes in the paint etc. Finally I lost my patience and I ask the guy "so your the paint expert, huh?" He said yes with a smirk so I asked why he came to look at the car in the dark, at night, if he was so f...ing smart. When his friend came inside to give me cash and look at my 69 I made the expert wait outside.

The cool tires have to be for some new model that tire manufacturers can be assured they're going to sell X number of sets. Manufacturing for after market hot rods etc, just isn't profitable enough..got to have the volume guaranteed. New cars look OK with the 30 series tires..Harder to speed rate a tall sidewall tire too..I wanted a 30 inch tall tire on my Camaro..had to go to a 295X40X20..I wanted a 335 but they were too short..talk down big rims all you want, but a wheel well that isn't full of wheel & tire looks like crap..

4."neon" kits flashing with the music at 200db (bright green is best) LOL..

6.People who use that exhaust "scent" stuff, cherry or lime does the trick!
7.People who try to talk to you without rolling down the window! What
did you say with there hands up???
8.People who use "dishsoap" to wash there cars! at the car wash i laugh
and see it all the time..Dawn cuts the grease!!
9.People who take the time to place those "ouch" band-aids on there cars

10.People who have bottles of perfume or aftershave in there cars.

I have to say the two things that get me the worst are when guys have super nice cars and don't know how to clean them. You look at them in the sun and see nothing but wax streaks or spots they missed! The other big thing is when they do clean their car nice, and don't do a good job on the wheels..AHHHH!! Dirty wheels can kill the look of any car, especially when they're chrome! I'm a wheel freak, I make sure they're spotless, haha.

Also, I used to think if someone, anyone, who has the money should own a hotrod if they want one. However, now I agree that an owner should have a working knowledge of the car and at least be able to change a tire.

Funny, there is a '69 or '70 Mach 1 that is rotting away about three houses down from me. It's red and has had a tarp sitting over the rotting body for the past 12 years I've lived here (not sure how long before then, but probably some years). I've watched the tarp progressively corrode away and fall off the car, and the cancer get worse and worse. My buddy tried to buy the car about five times (over about 3 years) and the guy won't sell.

cowl induction hoods that are taller than 2"

Import Section:

Primered body kits

One peeve I have is when you are at a show and you see a nice car. You tell the owner they have a nice car and they look at you as if to say I KNOW YOU DON'T HAVE TO TELL ME. Another one is when your at a show and the voting is the buddy system. I will vote for you if you vote for me. Just vote for the car you think is best and that's it!

:) When I had new floors put in I painted the underneath. My brother said why, nobody sees it. I said I do! It's also easier to clean. But then, you have to be into cleaning the underneath!

I like the underside to be neat, tidy, and most of all.. functional.

It sorta kills a car when the topside looks all thought-out and the underside is a mess.

I've done the best I could with my underside. But the inability to put the body on a rotisserie makes the task hard. It'll be tidy and presentable but not pretty. I guess that's good enough for a street car.

Mine's a street car, but I'm still anal as all hell about every square inch of it. I just took to the underside with a satin-black kyrlon spray bomb and it still looks great 2 years later.

No, mine used to be clean but after loosing several different oil lines, power steering lines and rear ends on several different power tours, it is kind of a PITA to keep clean now. So I just said screw it! LOL!:Alchy:

I'll have my Firebird up on stands this week to install a new rear I just finished. As long as it's already up I'll clean everything while I'm under there but I don't go crazy trying to keep it perfect. Tonight I noticed I really need to wash the rear wheelwells from the last trip to the dragstrip. They're not black anymore they look like concrete!

I realize a cars floor being 4 inches of the ground will get dirty, but those that do nothing with the bottom side at all drive me nuts. even I raced my pro street car, about once a month I put it on a lift and powerwashed it, all the clutch dust, and rubber makes a mess.

But it was painted and detailed when I assembled it.

Dirty wheel wells kill the look of a car to me, I even keep them clean on my daily driver, at least everytime I wash it! If the entire car is not clean, including the underside, I can't personally stand it.

Here's some that will fly in the face of most of you all....

- hidden exhausts are lame. Let's see those pipes just make sure they are done well and don't stick out too far. Chrome 45* angles out the back of a Mach1 is sweet. I agree though that the camaro stock pipes out the back are lame. That little bend down angle a foot before the end looks stupid.

- people who tell other people what they should do with their car. Like those who stop by other people's house to bug them about the car sitting in the yard rusting away. It's their property - let them do or not do what they want to do with it. You want somebody stopping by your house to tell you to fix up your porch or that your house needs painting? Get over it and charish what you own not bug others about what they own.

- I do agree with the post above. What's up with the 2008 Chevy truck with all the lights flashing and all the bolt on chrome plactic doing in a 73 and older show?

- Lambo doors.....
- Chopped muscle cars.
- stupid sayings on valve covers (heartbeat of america is the worst)
- very skinny tires up front

2. Stickers of any variety on nearly any car (Exception made for Mr. Horsepower stickers)
3. Poor engineering and lack of forethought in modding their cars:guilty:

How about the Ford F-250 having a 5yr ownership cost of $100k?

"To put this in perspective, the difference between a Focus and an F-250 over five years is $60,000. The annual pretax income of a typical family in this country is also about $60,000. So choosing a F-250 over a Focus is like volunteering for a 20 percent pay cut. The relative resale values might cushion the blow a little, but not much."

Yeah, say hello to some serious bargains on anything with a V8 for the next while.

for some reason I cant stand later model body parts on older cars.. like C5 vette mirrors on 1st gen camaros.. 90's flare side bed on 67-72 chevy truck.. newer "modern" doorhandles grafted in.. I appreiciate the work, just cant dig it. Same with wheels, corvette or newer camaro wheels on older cars, I have seen a couple that look OK but still just bugs me. Also not a fan of painted chrome parts like bumpers and grilles.. however I have seen a few of those as well on PT that I liked, just dont generally speaking. Wheels and details like mirrors make or break a car to me, I just like older cars kind of traditional I guess..:firefire:

Far too many rely on word of mouth to learn about cars / hot rods. Of course, the teacher is usually just as ignorant of the hobby as the student. And then you have crap like The Fast and the Furious :bsjerk: :hammer: :banghead: . Pile on a big heap of urban legend, misconception, and B.S., you have the kind of guy who thinks his four door Scamp with a rotting floor and 20s is a cool car.
