I have a 4L60E in a 96 Blazer behind a 4.3. I know this isn't a Pro-Touring related post but I figured there might be some GM trans. wizards that may be able to help.
I just bought this thing from a friend for $1000. He put a new fuel system on it, new radiator, replaced the heads and some other stuff.
He was working on the tranny because it lost 1st but wasn't slipping. He was told it was one of the solonoids. He went to replace the solonoid and said a peice of plastic from the old one broke off and he tried to dig it out. He thought he got it all but a peice must have gotten in there anyway.
Now it doesn't have overdrive. He just got tired of putting money and time in it and sold it to me for alot less than he had in it. Even if I had to replace the trans. I would be money ahead. This thing has leather and power seats. It's real clean.
I replaced the filter and fluid before I gave him the cash. The old stuff looked and smelled fine, no burnt fluid no particles.
I just drove it home from Birmingham, AL to the Gulf Coast, MS in third at about 60 mph/ 2500 rpm and got 20 mpg and drove fine but it just sucked not being able to not do interstate speeds. It took forever. It ran fine and didn't overheat or anything.
Can I just replace the valvebody or should I take it to a trans. shop for a full rebuild? I just need some help getting the scope of the problem.
Is this something that is common with the 4L60E?
