Progress pics of my firebird into camaro project. Midori Sour green from Du-Pont Hot Hues will be the color of choice. Started life as a 1969 Pontiac Firebird, yes Firebird, but don't flame me. I'm going for a low key look, not outlandish, mellow, not big power, budget build. A New School, Old School look.

Yes, after I bought the bird my desire for a camaro overwhelmed me. And the parts were more readily available.:screwy:

I bought all after market stuff to do the front clip, and had the inner fenders painted and Rino lined to get a jump on assembly. You guessed it, they sent the wrong inner fenders.:throw: Any body doing a 68-72 Chevelle in a nice green:seizure: .

The Color is Midori Sour from the Du-Pont Hot Hues collection. Really does a cool shade shift on contours in the sun light. I also am not a fan of green cars, and I think it comes out well.

As for the front wheels.. the pics show the rears sitting on the front so I could get a feel for the contrast of the paint to the wheel centers. The fronts are 18"s with 245s.

No Hate yet, and hopefully not. I will not be running any emblems accept maybe a 383 badge and I will have the small trunk keyhole Firebird emblem, probably magnetic, just for the "hughhhhhh" factor around town.

So far everyone has been good. I was going to do a 69 Trans Am clone but didn't want to change the interior so the plan was to have green T.A. stripes and tail panel. I just had a problem with the rubber around the front bumper and headlights, didn't like, loved the rest tho. And I have always wanted a 69 Camaro so it won out. work started, then EmptyNest come out with a new nose variation, just to late. Maybe that T.A. will be next. (And I could pay back my debt to society by starting with a Camaro body) L.O.L

I dropped my car off at a freind of the famileys back in June of 09 to be finished. Looking just like the pic ^^^^^^^. He said he new exactly what I wanted...a little round rod work on the gaps and a little smoothing here and there, and a little peice of round rod on the tail pan gap to quater panel on the passenger side below the rear bumper. Said he would take all kinds of pics and keep me posted all the time. No pics ever, couldn't email because he wouldn't answer, car was one state away so I couldn't go check on it. Finally had my dad who lives there go and check on it. He started going once a week or two weeks then at the end once or twice a day and the guy still would not do anything on it. His shop was empty 90% of the time also. He would talk a good story about all the problems he was having with it but I'm not stupid and the pics from my dad showed me the truth. So after 7 months or so I went and pulled it before he tried to spray paint on it in the state it was after I gave him a last chance. He said give him a week and it would be done, after three more weeks I pulled it. He wouldn't even come to the shop when I went to get it. So, Three grand later, a smashed oil pan, round rod job that is half assed and a hood that will need to be replaced now ( he tried to pull a couple dimples out by the crown of the hood in front of the cowl area and basically erased the front of the cowl bubble), I'm freekin torqued. Why does this paint jail stuff have to be so hard. I live rural and don't seem to have luck at it. Tryed to stay with some on I persoanlly new and still had bad luck. Lost my spot in the last place because i got laid off and had to pull it and put it on hold then also.

I asked him to put a piece of round rod in the slight gap of the rear tail pan to quarte gap (pic above^^^) and then fill both with seem sealer if anything. He puttied over them both and scribed a fake line in. Looks ok but will last how long when I hit the power to the ground. That will have to be redone.

I hope I can last thru the next one. I have hopefully secured a spot in another shop by my dads. Another long time family friend, but I know his work first hand and he was the one I wanted to do all the work first but he went to only collision work. I think he feels sorry for me now and said he would finish it. Keep fingers crossed for me. He did my wifes fathers 41 Chevy. And he has numerous very, very nice show cars of his own he has done.

Munster
01-02-2010, 06:52 PM
Some New school technology in a plain wrapper. Old school five spokes with modern sizes. I thought of it as, when the camaros were new or fresher the average joe might throw on a set cragars and maybe jack the rear and call it good, this is my version of that car in todays world. No big power plant just affordable small upgrading. (Meaning I'm not loaded$$)

Nice. I've looked at this one before and it really is nice. My cousin had a 77 or 78 close to the same color.

Green grows on you and can show body contours very well without being over the top. Not that any paint is really over the top I guess. My wife picked green and I said 'ok, but I get to pick the shade', were both happy.

Haven't posted in quite a while. Here are a few pics after the car was finished a few months ago. We have done a few car shows and have had some fun. It has an oil leak and a shifting problem so I am limited to under 25 mph. But it is was good for cruising the fairgrounds when we did the GoodGuys show here in Spokane. Hopefully I will get it sorted out soon. It's kind of like dating a beautiful blonde and you can only kiss her on the forehead.
