Starting to look at wheels and tires for my 1975 chevelle. Really like these wheels
http://www.centerlinewheels.com/wheels_detail.php?mw_id=35&sw_id=647
but the widest they come in is 17x9.5". Used to run 28x12.5 et streets on 15x10 prostars. Really liked the way they filled the wheelwells. Wanted to go a little shorter (probably 27") but keep them pretty wide. I'm guessing a 26-27" tall tire that is 12" wide won't fit on a 9.5" rim, right?

I'd run either a 275/35 or a 285/40.

Guess i'll have to find different rims then. I'd really like to go 315's on the back and 275's on the front. Big car needs some wide tires.

you could always get the wheels widened...

I'm running 285/40's on a 9.5 wide wheel.

315's will need a 10" wheel at a very minimum,11's would be better.
Figure about $400/wheel to widen wheels, even if it's just 1".
285/40 is about max for a 9.5" wide wheel.

Might be cheaper just to order some custom 17"x11" custom from centerline.

I currently have Centerlines & have tried to get 11" wide ones in the "Star" pattern. And they tell me: no way, no how, ain't gonna happen.

Well, i guess i might have to stick to a 285 on a 9.5 for now, which is really a shame seeing as there is room for a 13" wide tire in there. But i really love the look of the wheel, and would prefer not to switch.

Thanks for the help guys!

Not all 285/40's have the same physical size. Look at all the specs. I went with a Nitto 555 because they run a little smaller.. I think in general BFG's are a little larger overall.

IIRC the Toyos run really wide overall as well.

True...Nitto's are known to be more "square" with less buldge then others.

Don't know if you're interested or not, but our Malibu wheel is pretty similar in style. We can do a 17x7, 8, 9.5, or 11 with a stepped lip rim (same rim as the Centerline picture posted above) for a pretty reasonable price. If you're interested send me a PM.

Fyi, all the Vintage Wheel Works wheels are available 17x11 too, and are a 48 hour turn around time too.

We are a dealer, and have been very happy with their service, turn around time, and quality. Good company to deal with.
