Re: use of 4L80E (TCU controlled) behind 1st gen 327 bored .040 over using single turbo aiming for about 550hp. It will be a manual / automatic (non-full manual) shift application. This car will be mostly street, but will see occasional drag (no slicks) and road race use.
What part upgrades should I consider mandatory or strongly recommended for a 4L80E build in such an application ?
Obvious - shift kit, converter w/ beefy clutches, TCU w/ harness.
What 4L80E model years are compatible / best with a 1st gen motor application like mine ? I believe I recall reading a pre-99 truck or pre-98 camaro 4L80E is required for a 1st gen motor due to input shaft change. I have no idea if that is accurate.
From what I've read so far, it looks like a '93 to '97 would be a safer choice, w/ a '96 or '97 preferred.
If a new one would work with a 1st gen motor, that might be useful, as there are a couple new ones for sale on craigslist right now.
Thanks,
Mike
