Sorry if this is a repost, it is news to me....

This is the girl who keeps popping up from time to time in the automotive world.... first we all saw the camaro she built a few years ago... then she was temporarily a part of the Boyd Coddington crew... now, she is on the Popular Hot Rodding team!

I was googling Steve Rupp (looking for pics of Bad Penny for someone) and I saw this article.... You have to give it to the girl, she seems to be persistant in persuing a career in the automotive world!

Good for her. I wonder how many marriage proposals she's had from drooling gearheads since she popped up on the scene.

If I remember, she's got an H-pattern tattoo'd on her right palm. Too cool.

She rubbed me the wrong way at first (don't do it Allen) but Rupp vouches for her. That's good enough for me. I wish her the best.

So, you now know my replacement.. :)

Liz is a true gearhead and really loves cars (and bikes). Once she learns the ropes I'm sure she'll be a good asset to PHR and I wish her the best.

I just hope Johnny doesn't corrupt her too much with his build style.. lol.. just kidding!

Oh, and she just bought a new PHR project car.. should be cool.

Steve1968LS2

When I have a free weekend. lol

Car will be down for three weeks while I widen the front wheels. Then things should be calmed down here.

And yes, she lives in SoCal now.

I think steve has done a good job as tech editor, and I dont think he is an engineer, but he has LOTS of experience. I hope I'm wrong but "tech editor" and "22 years old" are somewhat contradictory. She'll have a new perspective for sure, but I would have thought a postition like that would have more experience required. I dont have anything against her, but when I think tech editor, I think of walking encyclopedias like Magnante, Vizard, Dulcich or marlan davis, not a kid with a wyotech skin.

A 22 year old tech editor? Im not so sure. Liz is nice, and has a great attitude and willingness to learn. She seamed really easy to talk to when I met her at Goodies. I wish her the best of luck. But I wonder about how long she'll last in the "hostile" work environment.

Good on her I say! Lets see how she matures on the job, she has some big shoes to fill, but if her dedication and go get it attitude has anything to do with it I think she'll do a good job.

Heck my hats off to anyone that has the guts and capability to build their own car regardless of age or sex! And if they take that experience and add their training to it I think we may have someone that will really bring something to the role and grow with it. Lets hope that she has a big PT influence :P

Steve did you have anything to do with her application / interview process?

First, thanks to all for any compliments... I tried to turn out good work and I sure learned a ton in my three years at PHR.

I had nothing to do with the hiring process... I did refer a few folks to Johnny for consideration.

Right now I'm swampped moving CP to a higher level tech wise. It's sure fun working there, but I do miss Fords and Mopars. :)

Like Johnny says in the PHR article "I’m really excited about Liz being here for a bunch of reasons"
Ol' Johnny's got himself a new playtoy.
It will be balls (boobs) to the wall filling Steve's shoes.

If PHR did a swimsuit layout with Liz, would that be too contravertial ? Her car ,her body ,her wanting to do it ?

Sure would bring a lot to talk about over an old issue:lmao:

I'm trying but I see her as both the skills and the looks to become more of an icon than Michele Smith [I think that's her name] from American Thunder motorcycle show. And that would bring PHR in a whole new light. Is this good or bad I don't know? I just know that I could handle the change one way or another. I wish her the very best and consider her to be very fortunate to have it all in the eyes of many.

I just know how the readers are and the issue it has been before and just had to ask the question before someone else did because I see it in a positive way to be very good for her career and the sales of PHR.

Maybe she can get to be on the Tonight Show and interview with Jay Leno before he retires?

Scottem
06-05-2008, 07:21 AM
Hey, a lot of women have been many things. Why wouldn't she want to do a "tastefully done" swimsuit issue? A few monkey grease smudges, a hot swim suit next to her hot car??

I've thought about it a bit and realized that I simply don't care. No offense to our younger members but I can't recall the last time someone that age said something I was interested in. Having met her I don't see that changing, and the looks aren't impressive enough to bring me past the lack of interest in anything she might have to say.

As long as we never see any beefcake straddling the hood of a musclecar on the cover of PHR, I don't see a problem with having a girl staffer. She probably isn't an expert in everything, but that shouldn't stop her from consulting with experts to get the info people need.

Best of luck Liz!

Sometimes, just sometimes, you can learn a lot due to new and interesting points of view the younger enthusiasts might have.

I know 18 year olds who've forgotten more in their short lives than some 60 year olds have learned in their whole lives.

Aint that the truth. They arent all video game junkies. I really like Liz and I hope she goes far! I dont want to see her in a bikini because it would ruin it for me. What would be left after that? Its kinda like Courtney from Overhaulin and Power Block. She tries to be a car chick but then she uses those ridiculous attempts at sexy looks. <<She's still beautiful though!>>

Sometimes girls are sexy without trying. Thats what I think of Liz. She doesnt need to do the swimsuit.

Just my $.02

She is a beautiful lady. I don't think she needs to do a swimsuit. I think she will do many great things in her life. Just look at her accomplishments so far. Give her time and a chance and see what comes of it.:twothumbs

I have wanted to post here for a long time, with announcement of my new job and this looks like the perfect opportunity.

Thank you guys for all the support, and for those who are skeptical, give me a shot, read my stories, I am more then open to critique.

As for my survival in a hostile work environment... I cant imagine a more hostile place to work than Boyd's, this is quite the contrast.

Barraza: I couldn’t agree with you more on the experience level issue, and those guys are truly people for me to look up to. There are positives too, to being relatively new to the industry. I may ask overlooked questions with assumed answers, maybe gain a new perspective on an old topic... keep it in mind.

I can’t list all the guys to thank on the board, more specifically on this post. You know who you are. I hope to become one of the regulars here. I have gotten a couple welcome emails and I really appreciate it!

Thanks again!

Liz,

Welcome to the site and PHR. About time there was some diversity around here.... Glad to hear you are doing a Mustang. Too often people look at PT as a Camaro or GM thing only.

When you are ready to do a "real" Mustang I offer up my 69 Mach1. It would be a great PT project and would bring more of the Ford crowd around - especially via this site, PHR and other quality Mustang sites like VMF and 69stang.com. The Ford PT movement needs some guidance and some exposure and of course more aftermarket companies to get involved. Maybe a Mach1 conversion is the ticket. Seriously, if you want a shot at this let me know....

Welcome to our Forum.

I've read some of your articles, plus your website, you are going to fit in just fine. Long ago I had a teacher who said "I don't expect you to know all the answers, but I expect you to know how to look them up". That includes having a list of experts to call when a tough question comes along. I've learned a lot by looking up answers to Forum member's questions. With your job title, you are in a great position to ask the top people in the industry questions and bring that tech back to the readers.

Ms. Liz...how about a suggestion from a nobody...
Back in the day, Car Craft I think it was, had a "real street eliminator". How about something like that...and, the cough*import*cough guys have jumped all over the japanese sport of "time attack", so how about some of these guys/girls crashing the party on those boys/girls and prove their mettle (sp?). I know lots of these guys and gals really put their rides through its paces, so why not bring us some sort of "fastest street car of America" road racing style?
