Hello all. I am from central Indiana. I have a 1968 Camaro SS 396 without the original engine. I have been working on the car and showing it for the last 4 years. I went with the drag theme, and now it is time to change. I want to turn it into a pro touring car.
Right now the engine is a 468ci BBC dyno'ed at 600hp to the tires and a TH400 with a 4000 stahl converter. I am going to a less radical 512ci engine (on the stand and in the garage now) with a TKO or Richmond OD manual trans and still keep the 411 gears that I run now.
What works well for rims and tires on the 1st gens? I want to go as wide as I can without having to butcher much. The car only has 78,000 miles on it and has been rust free from birth.
Thanks, and GREAT SITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

here is a pic or 2.....and a short youtube link

Pictures probably require a membership at snowmobileworld.com where they're hosted.

You can directly attach the pics to the thread. Just reply, click "Go Advanced" if it's there, and then scroll down and click "Manage Attachments". You can then attach the pics to your post.

That is a great looking Camaro. I was just in Indiana Mon - Wed of this week. Flew back yesterday. Was nice out there. Wish I could have stayed for the big race. Welcome to the site.

That is a great looking 396! Too bad you're going Pro-T. I'm digging the drag look, kinda nostalgic going back to the 396's original heritage...made for the strip! If I had an original 396, I'd build a rat that looks the part, put a Muncie rock crusher back in it, update the suspension, brakes etc., find some vintage street wheels and set the car up for dual purpose track/strip.

That's just my wishful thinking. It's your car, build it the way you want it!!!
