Need Help from DriverZInc or Others on Wheel / Tire Size for 68 Mini-Tib Camaro

Need some help with wheel and tire sizes for my 68 camaro. The camaro has DSE coil overs in the front and DSE 3" drop leafs in the rear with mini-tub install. Thinking about subframe connectors with stock or 1/2" drop solid body bushings but haven't decided yet. I do not plan to run the chrome wheel well mouldings. Fender lips have not been rolled but car has not been painted yet so that is an option. For brakes I have Baer Track in front and Baer Sport in rear. Rear end is stock width 12 bolt.

I have a set of American Racing Torq Thurst II - 17X7 with 4" backside for front with BFGoodrich G-Force Sport 225/45R17 and 17X8 with 4-3/4" backside for rear with BFGoodrich G-Force Sport 245/45R17. (Purchased with another camaro.)

So with all the background, here are the questions.

      1. Can I move the 17X8's with 245/45R17 tires to the front? DSE website says yes but that is with a stock suspension. Would you go with the 17X7 or 17X8 in the front?

2A. Will the off the shelf American Racing Torq Thrust 17X11 designed for 93+ camaro work for the rear of my car? It is part number 505-71163 with 45 offset, 7-3/4 backside, and 5-4.75" bolt circle.

2B. If 2A is no, will AR custom make a 17X11 that will work and what are the specs needed?

      3. If answer to 2A is yes, what tire size would work? Anything close to the same look as what I already have would be nice. I checked and it does not look like I can get the BFGoodrich G-Force Sport in a 315 R17.

P.S. DriverzInc, if this will work, please PM me a price on 17X11 wheel and tire (AR TT II).

Thanks in advance for the help.

The DSE coil-over kit shouldn't push your wheels out up front. Those 17x8 (4.75-5.00) bs should fit just fine with a 245 tire. Is the car not in condition to test-fit the wheel? That would be the simple answer.

4th gen f-bodies have the wrong backspacing for a 1st gen. They are basically 2" deeper in the backspacing than what a 1st gen needs. You would need something like 17x11 with a 6.5" bs. I recommend 315 wide tires for an 11" wheel.

Yes, Amercian Racing custom builds wheels. They usually take 6-8 weeks to deliver. I don't carry AR wheels, sorry for no quote.

Thanks for the info Nine Ball . . . the Baer brakes are still in the box so no rotors on the car. (Stock brakes gone.) I guess I could just slide the rotor on the spindle / hub without the bracket and caliper for a test fit. Just thought of that now.

You might be close with the 4th gen 11's with the mini tub. Never know till you measure it up.

Sorry it took a day or so to get back to you. If you would like, you can all anytime to talk about it... From what you've said above, here's what we think.

DSE's front set up is not going to increase track width any, so yes, run the 245 up front, on a 17x8 with 4.75"-5.0" backspace and you are safe there. I personally would like to see a 4.875" BS, but I understand that American does not offer it.

On your rear, here is how it break's down. With DSE's minitub, they suggest a 12" wheel. With a stock width rear end, and putting the extra width of wheel all to the inside tub, you would logically run a 17x11 with a 7" backspace, which leaves your front space the same as if you ran a 9.5" with a 5.5" backspace. (Which is 5" of front space.) So what's going to happen here, if you do run the 93 and up off the shelf wheels, is your wheels are going to be sucked in by an extra .75" from what we would normally run. BUT, since DSE's tubs are designed to run a 12" wheel, there is that extra room inside. So, long story short, yes it will 'work' your rear wheels will just be an extra .75" away from your outer fender.

Hope that didn't confuse you any. Makes total sense to me as I'm typing it, but I can understand how it all gets to be a little complicated. Call me if you want to talk about it.
