I am wondering what everyone is using for fittings on the 4l80 cooler lines. I noticed the rear fitting has a longer tube that sticks into the transmission. Is this needed or can i just find the right AN fitting to adapt and not worry about it?

It's needed for the later model 80E's for correct lubrication. Check over at LS1TECH.com also in the auto tranny section - there's some pix and notes of there. There are people out there selling the right fitting fixed up for this purpose.

You should be able to pick this special rear fitting up at any local transmission shop. This is a very common part. You must use the fitting with the lube tube on it, as Jim said it is for correct lubrication on the planet. We have seen guys just put a regular fitting in this location, very bad results! If you can not find the fitting anywhere, just let me know. Here is the part number, 34918-01K. Should be able to pick it up between $35.00 - $40.00.

Mark, just to confirm, if you have an earlier 80E, you don't need this fitting, correct? Cuz I don't have one on mine right now, and it's survived for 6K miles now.

Jim, You are correct. If you have a 1991 - 1996 4L80-E that have the cooler lines in the traditional location then you do not need to worry about the special fitting. Only the late model 4L80-E with the one rear cooler line fitting is the problem.

Thanks,
Mark
