      68 Camaro & Rear Ls1 Brakes

      Dangerous question, I know.

After reading thru everypost with the word "ls1" in disk brakes I was yet to find a resolution I was 100% comfortable with.

I live in Canada, so it's tough(or almost impossible) to find a wrecked LS1 with rear brakes attached, especially two LH units for a staggered shock setup. So I'll be ordering a set of front and rears of ebay.

Has anyone had any luck with "clocking" the RH unit to clear the shock and allow the e-brake to work along with bleeder screw?

Other solutions?? I know there is a shock relocation kit, but I'm not sold on that either.

      Thanks

Since you have not got a reply yet, I'll chime in. I have put the LS1s on the rear of a couple staggered shock camaros and here is a cheep option:

Buy a set of complete LS1 rear brake set off ebay. Then buy the LH caliper bracket PT# 10444626 from GM parts direct. I just checked and it is $77.00USD.

You can use the RH caliper, you just have to unbolt and rotate the caliper back to get the bleeder screw to the highest spot. This should be the cheepest way to get around the staggered shock set up.

Don't forget you have to space the caliper bracket out aprox 1/8" to get the caliper centered on the rotor.

As far as parking brake, you can use the LS1 mounting brackets, you just have to cut and weld them to the lower spring plate. I then shorten one of the cables and use the orig. park brake center pull cable.

You should also use longer studs due to the thicker web on the rotors and the thicker centers of aluminum wheels.

      Hope this helps.

      Thanks Dave,

I ended up getting (2) LH units from an Ohio wrecker along with a set of LS1 front brakes to match.

I made up the rear spacers, .200" thk so I'm well on my way now.

My next question is what master cylinder in a power setup gives the best pedal feel? I've read the early generation corvette works, but I don't have a p/n (yet).

      Thanks for the help.

I think a early 70s vette master for power brakes should work fine. I am fairly sure that the master has a 1 1/8" bore and will work very well.

I used a C3 'vette M/C as well. Brakes feel pretty good with hydraboost.

Is the mounting bolt pattern on the ls1 e-brake backing plate the same as the flange on a 12 bolt (1st gen)?

The 4th Gen version is the same but the 'vette version is not.
