      315/40/19 F1's

I bought some well used 315/40/19's off the net to see what they would look like on the cuda. What do you guys think? I was planning on going no bigger than a 18" wheel in the back, but now I can't decide.

What type of rear susp are you using? I have a 70 with Air Rides Triangulated Four Link and was planning on mini-tubbing. I need to move the lower bars in too.
Do those tires get into the frame area any? Are you already mini-tubbed.
BTW, I plan on going 18 X as wide as I can, but it's your ride. I imagine replacing a smaller than 19? tire would be alot cheaper and then you got the jump in price on the wheels. But, again that is my opinion. You might not be concerned about those issues. They do, however, still look good.

I put that same size on my Demon to see how they would look. I thought when compared to the fronts, they were too tall. I didnt like the 3" difference in tire diameter from front to rear.

Cuda is a bigger car though.........

I like tall tires, but I think those are too tall.

go-fish, The rear set-up is the air bar with Dr. Diffs 1" relocate kit. It's a B-body Strage 60 rear-end. No mini-tub. The 315's max out the wheel well for sure. I've been on the Cuda-Challenger site from time to time.

These tires measured 28.5" tall when I put a tape on them. It looks just a tad tall to me too. I wish there was a 315/40/18 out there, I think that would be perfect. I may look for a used 305/35/18 and see what it looks like. Thanks for the input.

rjsjea, I'm in Nebraska just north of Omaha. If you have a 305/35/18 sitting around, I'd sure be interested. Just let me know what you need for it. Thanks!

I think they look good. I love a little bigger side wall, but its six one way half a dozen the other right. I have the same problem I wish someone would make a 315/40/17.

+1 That's the truth. 25.7" is a little short. 26.5-27" would be perfect. But I want to stick with 17" wheels, too. As of now, my plans are 315/35-17 (maybe 285/40-17) rear and 275/40-17 front.

This is a mock up of my 70 Cuda with a 20 inch rear rim..... the tire I think was a "20" side wall....not enough sidewall for my tastes

This is the car with a 275-40-18 tire, but no rim...too small

Then the car with my actual 335-30-20 rear and 245-30-19 front....fully dropped... I'm using air ride front and back... the 335 is 28 inches tall. If you're gonna have a tall tire, it has to sit pretty low to look right. My car is minitubbed with a small notch in the frame and custom made tubs.

I think with a tall tire you have to balance the sidewall...too much and it looks like a 4x4...too little and it looks like a rubber band. IMO the overall height of your tire is fine, but the sidewall is a bit big for that size rim etc.

I like the look of those 19s. I'd lower it so the top of the rim is the same height as the fender lip. It looks like the axle isn't centered in the wheelwell: can the suspension links be adjusted aft?

DRJDVM, Thanks for the pics. Your Cuda is going to be killer! I think your right on the hight and sidewall thing.

KQM052, I believe I would need a longer lower controll arm. The uppers are adjustible but not the lowers.

I vote for the 315/40/19's, they fill out the wheel well perfectly. And the ride quality is going to be alot better with the 40 series sidewall.

i love the big ones, but ill echo what has been said before; the rear must sit over them to make them look good. i cant tell you how many cars i saw at the goodguys show yesterday that either had way too much backspacing or sat waaayyy too high. this kills the look of big wheels and tires.

drop that rear end and run a tire that fills the well. im shooting for a 295 or 305/35/20 for the rear of my 70 velle. that 315/40/19 wouldnt be a bad option though.
