Ok, I know this is a dumb question, but I have a '64 Chevelle, hardtop, so, there is no B pillar to cluster up the view of the sides of the car. The issue is that I'm pretty much gonna need to cage it, but want to try and NOT run the main hoop. I realize that it is the backbone of a full cage, but wondered if anyone has tried to use better than DOM or chrome moly to try and accomplish something like this. Thanks guys

if you run the hoop inline with and at the same angle as the quarter window trim between the front and rear windows it pretty much dissapears. I wouldnt try to do it as you are talking

I know it probably won't work, so I'm not getting my hopes up, BUT, I live in So Cal, and when the car gets driven it will probably be with all the windows down.... that would kill the hiding behind the trim part.
I'm not trying to flare tempers, I just want to see if this is even possible.

Your signature says chopped top 1.5".

You might want to get a short piece of scrap tubing and get an idea of how much room you have. The cage is their for protection and also to stiffen up the chassis. Do a check fit to see how close it is to your head and also is if your vision is obstructed.

Do you plan on running a 5 point harness? This will have an effect on how that cage is built.

Post some pic's when you get a chance and good luck with the build.

What part of the valley are you from?

Well, this high dollar build is getting a cage, but it is hidden in the interior. https://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18248&highlight=beaumont

Well, the nice thing with the '64-'65 Chevelle/El Camino's are that they have HUGE amounts of headroom, or "Greenhouse". I really like the greenhouses of the '66-'67's, but a lot more of those are around than the '64's. So, I decided I didn't need all that headroom, and only went about an inch and a half vertically, leaving me still plenty of room to put a cage. And ya, it's going to go to the track, or multiple, so the cage and 5 points are pretty much going to be a necessity.
Thanks for the support, and it's pretty rough at the moment, so I don't know about posting pics quite yet...
I'm in woodland hills, I love being this close to the canyons!
