I have a 68 with the plastic "simulated" brushed aluminum from Covan. My plan was to have it painted satin black at the same time as the rest of my interior. If you want I can snap a picture for you after I get off work, but it is a 68.

FYI: The black version from Covan that I saw at a local car show is textured. The raised grains are very visible.

It's a lot of cash, but the DSE dash insert looks cool.

I don't think it would fool anyone into thinking it's real. It looks simulated for sure. If you have other interior parts that are brushed aluminum, it most likely wont match. It's like the fake carbon fiber look, but brushed alum instead. It looks ok 15 feet away and the finish is smooth and glossy.

Yea, anytime the camera comes out the little munchkin wants to help. She wants to be in the picture one way or another, even if it's just her little fingers.

Here you go. I snapped these at a local show for reference. The brushed alum looks OK to me.

It's a dark silver insert. Brushed is pushing it.

Right, its definitely a faux finish. I thought it would look ok against other polished/billet interior parts...
