      Billet Wheel Cleaning HELP!!! (Vendors?)

I have a set of billet wheels that need some major help..Can I take some fine grit sand paper to clean them and get all the crap off them where somebody never cleaned them and then polish them?? Will this leave bad marks on the wheels? If so, what grit sandpaper should I use? If not, what can I do? Thanks

You can still save them but you have your work cut out for you. I would start a small area with 600 working your way up to 2000 and then polish. I did a set of the old Centerline billet wheels a few years ago that looked just as bad. It was a couple weekends worth of work but looked like new when I was done.

I would first give them a good wash, maybe even two good washes. Before I started sanding, I would try the Mothers polishing ball or try the Flitz polishing ball. I would only sand as a last result and be prepared to do a lot of polishing. I have the Flitz and it helps speed up the time it takes to get them looking good again. If you can get them looking good, you can always use a product from Zoops to help seal them. My next set of rims will get clear coated by Specialized in Huntington Beach before I even mount the tires. I like the look of polished rims more than chrome, but upkeep is a pain. Hope the info helps.

Wow, you are going to have a lot of work on your hands. You should think about sending them in to Colorado to be re-worked. They'll do a nice job of it for little money, all things considered. Or, if you have a local polish shop, give them a call. It's a dirty job, and those are going to take some time to bring back.

Or, blast them, and powdercoat the whole wheel and call it done... not a bad idea either.
