Hey guys, I had a friend come over tonight so we could see if a 295 tire would fit on the regal and its going to fit just fine, just need to roll the lips and beat the wheel well in a bit. What im confused on is that the regal is 12 inches from the inner fender to the outter lip of the wheel well, Well my GTO is 14 inches. People have said a 295 is about max for a GTO rear tire, but its 2 inches larger then the regal. shouldnt I beable to get a larger tire under the GTO :hmm: the gto is now at my friends shop so i couldnt put hte 295 under it to see. can someone help me out??

Depends on what hits first. Also remember you are going off of others peoples word and what sized rims?

the wheels for the regal are 9.5 inches wide, now the GTO will be running a 10 inch wide wheel.

here vince, i drew this up in MS paint real quick to give you an idea on what i see when i look at my GTO, the people that had my car befor me cut a little bit out the "roundness" of the wheel well to house a bigger tire. but if i make it completly squared off i wonder if i could get a bigger tire in there..

Im doing the same thing with my Chevelle. I have corner problems.

You know I believe the G bodys tubs are a bit more square-ish.

Are these 17's or +

the wheels i have for the regal are 19s, and i think im acutally going to run a 265-275 tire so i can get the car much lower. the GTO will have 19s front 20s out back just for looks and 18s for the track..

Oh well 19's yeah you got a bunch of room. A 275 60 15 on an 8" rims has just about the same width as a 305/19" do to tire bulge. Well close at least.

the fesler nova in the updates section is kind of what i was thinking as the rear wheel wells go, replace the stock ones with that style and get it as flush to the frame as possible and hopefully that would clear up some space..

Good illustration and this is where most people have a hard time with fitments, The tires might clear when you have the car on a jack but once you bring the car down to driving level you will have much less room to work with.

Most of these cars have the inner fenders that arch fast so you loose a lot of room for the tire and it will hit and rub, you can do some small modifing to the inner fender to square it up but if you guys want to do something like the Nova we are doing you have to cut everything out. you can also roll the outer lip and use spacers to help fit wheels better.

Good luck on what you decide and remember its only metal so start cutting:smoke:

Quick update, I looked at the GTO and then the regal. the inner wheel well on the GTO auctally sits in front of the frame. while on the Regal it sits on top of the frame. Dont have any pictures to show you what i mean so i hope you guys know what im talking about. I think that if i was to put the inner wheel well "ontop" of the GTO frame and roll the fender lips it would clear up more room.. and maybe beable to squezee a tire bigger then a 295. any thoughts?

I would say you are right on the money with your logic. I just measured a GTO today, and the wheel wells did exactly what you drew up, and unfortunately the guy didn't want to cut anything up, so we couldn't go wider.... but if you were to cut, there are possibilities for a wider tire, no doubt.

little update, choose to run a 255/35/19 tire for the regal so i didnt have to roll my fender lips. If i roll them i cant use the GNX fender flares. there are pictures on my thread in project updates..

For a 9.5" wheel, I would got with a 275. And that should fit in there w/o rolling.

i want to beable to tuck the tires up a little bit, i think now i may have to notch the frame in about an inch, theres a nice write up i found the other day..
