View Full Version : Seat Mounting Question

OK, here's a rather dumb question. For my 70 Chevelle (originally bench seat), I bought some Recaros to replace. They were used, so what I've got at this point are the seats themselves, and sliders. Has anyone in this situation installed seats themselves? Do I need to find some stock bucket seat mounts and then attach to the floor? I'm a little flummoxed at this point because the Chevelle floor only has mounting points for the outboard locations of the original bench, so I have no clue what I need from here. Hope that helps, and many thanks for the feedback....

yea, easiest thing would be to find tracks for buckets, and then mount the seats to the tracks
drill holes and a support plate (think large washer) under the floor board is probably gonna be the easiest

I have vintage E21 BMW Recaro's in my car. My seat brackets came from:

http://www.wedgeengineering.net/

My sliders are genuine Recaro. I can't remember who I bought the sliders from. Everything was a bolt in affair. Took half an afternoon. No drilling, cutting, anything...

Here is a link to the bucket seat conversion brackets

I believe this will allow you to use the Wedge engineering kit as I've been told they use the stock bucket seat holes. You can confirm it with Wedge to be sure.

Thanks to all for the responses. Looks like I need to make a call to OPG and figure out where to go from here...

I would call Wedge first. They were VERY knowledgeable when I called with several questions. I have a sneaky suspicion OPG will know very little about the Recaro issue.

Also, it looks like Wedge has you covered:

If you scroll down on their main page to the item list, you will find this:

Thanks for the feedback. I ended up getting the brackets from Wedge, and they worked fantastically. Would definitely recommend them.

Not sure on the Pro Car seats. The OPG brackets are made to work with stock buckets. Your best bet is to call Wedge Engineering and see if they have something that works. Their info is in post #3 above.

I have the brackets for the Recaro seats if you need them, I use them in Camaros, Chevelles, Novas and Mustangs and they slide if the seats you have are the same as Recaro they will bolt up.

I made my own L shape brackets they worked out great. No height issues or anything.
