Hit a major milestone in completing all the major body work on my Mustang project so it is time to create a project thread.

What I am building is a 67 Mustang coupe that is just a little past stock.

For the body I have added a 67 Shelby hood and nose, Shebly rear deck lid and extensions, Shelby side scoops & Shelby tail light panel. For the tail lights I am using a full LED setup from Mustang Project.

Under the car I fabbed up some custom sub frame connectors and fully welded them into the floor boards. I also cut out and moved the rear wheel tubs in 3 inches to fit some extra rubber.

Suspension is a Rod & Custom complete Mustang II Front suspension with Double Adjustable Shockwaves & Rear a complete mustang Air Bar setup from Air Ride Technologies. Rounding out the Air ride stuff is the Ride Pro E2 system.

For the drive train I am using a 2003 mustang cobra 32V Supercharged 4.6 with a 6 speed. Followed up by a aluminum driveshaft from Denny's Driveshaft and into a narrowed 9 inch with 373 gears mounted to an Eaton Tru-trac and 31 spline Moser axles.

Wheels and tires are 18X8 and 18X10 Shelby replica wheels with 245/35 & 285/30 BFG's

These first pictures are from last year when I completed the fab work and took the car out for some shakedown runs.

Awesome project man... You need to throw a Kenne Bell on that motor. I'm putting a similar motor in my '00 GT. Good luck with your project and keep the pics posted.

I have it prepped for full paint but have decided to go with Spectrum from Second Skin since this car will get lots of road time.

Its looking good. How difficult was it to mini tub? Any pics of that and the sub frame connectors?

Mini tub was simple, Plasma and add 3 inch wide patch.

Here is a pic of the wheel well and the subframe connectors I made.

Nice! What color? It seems that a 315 would fit with the extra 3"? Did you move the inner wheelhouse flush with the outisde of the frame or did you scallop into the frame rail?

I can't wait to see it finished...

Looks like a great project. Why wouldn't you run a little bigger tire with the mini tube set up? Love the motor choice and set up. Really looks like it will be a killer ride when done. Keep us posted.

I will go to a bigger tire in the future. I purchased the current wheels and tires before I mini tubbed it. One of the many lessons one learns as they go along.

Thanks for the pics. They look good. Will the back seats fit with the mini tub? I want to mini tub my Cougar, but i want to keep the back seats.

How hard was it to fit the cobra motor in there? I haven't kept up with the mustang stuff. Is it something you had to fab up yourself or are there vendors for conversions now. I know in the past people have said it was a pita.

i looked into it last year on mine and it required removing the shock towers and running a Mustang II front suspension (that motor is very wide)...looks like thats exactly what he is running here.

My question does that allow the engine to be mounted any lower and still use the stock hood? I know ive seen some other setups that required a raised hood

I am running the back seat from the 03 Cobra donor car and the upper sections fit. The lower will require a minor change just to match the contour of the 67 side panels. I have fitted the stock side panels in the car after the tub mods and they will work with no changes. I do know that a stock 67 seat back would require some work to fit it in but would be very simple.

The front is a Mustang II kit from Rod & Custom and the motor mount kit that comes with it allows you to decide the final position of the engine. I am running a 67 shelby hood and have plenty of clearance. I feel the stock hood would clear this setup but it would be very close. I could set the engine down another inch if I had to.

On your mini-tub job did you move the inner wheelhouses flush with the outside of the frame rails or did you scallop into the rail?

I cut away the lip of the outside frame rail (Where the factory spot welds were to the pans) and made it flush with the main channel.

I took a break from the corvette for a couple days and got back on this build. Got the engine compartment ready for paint so I went ahead and prepped the bottom of the car as well. I put 2 coats of Epoxy primer down then sprayed 2 coats of Lizard Skin. Car is very close to paint....then the fun begins.

Yep, I built it in the new side of the shop. Sure makes it nice to spray.

I am reviving this old thread to post my updates on going forward. Started getting the engine compartment together this past weekend and it is looking very nice.

More details on this please! I think I will try to build a booth if/when I ever build a shop. I've debated whether to save money and buy a used booth or just build one. I even thought about planning ahead and building a pit in the floor to make my own downdraft. Probably overkill for the 1 car I would probably finish every few years. At my current rate, that's even dreaming.

The Mustang is looking awesome! Keep the updates coming

I went through the same decision Brandon on weather to buy a pre made or build. My main issue was having it fit inside the shop while keeping the exterior of the addition somewhat uniform to the rest of the shop and house.
The Exhaust fan and plenum location is what sealed it for me and I just built my own. I am very happy with it and there is only a couple things I may change which is sinking the lights into the walls and install a floor drain for the water.

The fan is a 14,440 CFM unit I picked up from Grainger and I just fabbed up my own plenum to fit the exhaust filters. Overall it works great and I am very pleased. While I would have preferred a down draft the cross draft does what I need and will only see a couple cars a year so just take the extra time to make sure it is clean and the results are great.
Also I only have about $1500 in materials total to build the booth which includes the Fan, Filters, Lights, Studs and Sheetrock so that was a big factor in the decision as well.

We'll have to talk whenever I get to that point. It may be a few years, so don't hold your breath.

I'm definitely jealous of the amount of work you get done. Do you sleep? Keep up the good work.

Made some progress recently but is slow due to all the detail work required with such a custom build. Engine is wired and fired again so really close to being able to drive it again.

I also want to add that the wheels on the car are not staying. I ordered Rushforth Livewires with Satin black centers last week. Should really make the car.
