Quarter panel help

[81 trans-am]

I need to replace both quaters on my 81 bird. My question is should I use a lap joint or should I butt the 2 panels and stitch weld them. I think the lap joint would be easier and the butt joint cleaner. This is my first time replacing quarters and any info from people who have done this is helpful.

ps. They only sell quarter panel skins for my car so full skins are a no-go.

If you want it to last, I would butt joint it, But it is not as easy. How are your welding skills?

Not great but geting better with every panel I replace. I already did the floors, firewall and mini-tubs. The quarters are the only rusty metal left.
