Next weekend I plan to start installing all the Second Skin sound deadener to the inside of my '68 Camaro I bought.
Has anyone done the inside of the door skins and behind the rear window area of the quarter panel?
My question is do I need to gut the window mechanisms to install the stuff? Right now it's all manual but some day I will install Electric Life power units on all four windows.

I installed sound deadener in the doors of my 70 without removing the window mech. The lower portion of the door is easy. Above the body line is quite difficult so I skipped it as there is only a very small area (strip about 2"-3" wide) of exposed sheet metal anyway.
I read somewhere on the site here, that installing stratgicaly placed strips can be just as effective as completely covering the entire panel.
Seems that might be a cost/weight saver. I think I will try it on my roof panel.

No need to remove the window components.
Also 70bird is right that it isn't always necessary to cover an entire panel to achieve effective dampening.

Thanks guys. I am just trying to plan my time and I hate to remove the window componets until I am ready to install the power units some day.

I heard you need 75% of coverage for it to be effective.
