Hey Guys, i want to run a 22X10'' wheel on the rear of my 70 chevelle with stock tubs, i need to know the tallest tire the will fit in the stock well while keeping the car at a low profile stance.

A 275/60-15 tire is 28" in diameter. A 295/30-22 is 29" in diameter. You might search and see how low people have gone with a 275/60-15 to give you a starting point. You will have to remember the 295/30-22 will be wider though.

another possibility is the 295/25 ZR22..
this dodge magnum have rear that dimension, and the diameter will fit on my road runner. so i think on your chevelle too...

Hey guys, i was thinking of a tire with a little more sidewall like the 285-35-22 its about 29.9'' tall, sect. width 11.2" what do u guys think of that dia. tire

You can get away with the 295/30/22, but anything taller you are going to run in to problems. Trust me, we've done plenty of chevelle's, and custom fitment, and we know what will rub. A 30" tall tire, will rub without modifying the wheel tubs.

Brian at Intro did a 20/22 combo. Here are some photos:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
It's a little too much wheel for me, and too little tire, but to each his own. I've run that combo before on my Impala, and at that point, yes, they really are rubberband tires.

big rims are cool, but only to the point to where it's TOO big. 22's are fine in the rear but they are way to big up front. personally i like a car to be lowered at least a little w/or w/o aftermarket wheels and those guys runnin 22's and bigger kinda make a car look goofy. having them that big all the way around is for a truck and they obviously have no idea how much better it could look with a small height adjustment (staggered stance preferably) and smaller wheels up front. that silver chevy a few posts back is one of the best set-ups i've seen. here's a few more pics.
here's an 18/20 combo (top), a foose chevelle (middle), and another ride (bottom):

all 22's isn't that bad IF and WHEN you lower it. you can't deny that green w/green wheels isn't above the level and personally i wouldn't do 22's on the front, but that car is great. a 20/22 & a 18/20 is a little smarter and just so you know, i didn't post donk pics. they may become that way eventually but i'm not even black and i know what a donk is:

I can certainly appreciate all the different looks/styles in our hobby.
No disrespect intended.
Maybe it is just an age thing (I am 47).
I really don't care for anything over 20".
And IMHO cars that look good with 20's are few and far between. There are some on this site that make it work..
Not to stir the pot any further but I think it is like any other fad.
People will take it to the EXTREME and then eventually it gets reeled back in to reality..

i'm not a fan of 22's up front but with having bags on this one, it doesn't look bad when parked. would be cool to have just the 22's up front for the show and then throw on some 20's for the trip or maybe even just put all the 15" cragers on that come with this car too.

and since this car probably doesn't have matching numbers, it wouldn't hurt the value if someone tubbed the rear, set up a four link, cleared out the front and upgraded the suspension and brake set up so it could lay frame. would be pro-touring as well as a mild custom.

no, it's not, but it easily could be and this thread is about wheels, not the classification of what you think your car fits in. i mean, people are transforming pro-stock which aren't pro-touring either but are more excepted as well, right? all this car needs now to be "pro-touring" is a some drive line upgrades and what i posted above with the addition of some discs. pro-touring is a step BELOW show meant to be driven, right? airbags means it rides like a cadillac which would be modern and to give it a little more, a four link would be needed along with top-shelf control arms and that's it. don't feel bad because with enough work in the right places a car can fit in to multiple categories with just a wheel change. if i bought this one, i could buy some 17" played out torque thrusts or use the 15" ones he has for sale with the car and a set of spokes and after doing the upgrades said, i'd have a pro-touring car one day, a lowrider the next, and then turn around and shut em down with a supposed donk a.k.a. showtopper the next. pro-touring just means updated, which a lot of custom cars obtain when built.
here's a car by member "AUTODYNAMICS". what's the difference in looks? the wheels? is that the only things that bothers you? wheels? i have multiple wheels for almost every car i own. so what.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

i knew what a p-t car was within 5 minutes of finding this website. that kind of car has been around since the first guy upgraded everything on his car (before rich people, there were gearheads who couldn't do anything but performance upgrades). there is nothing new man, people just rename stuff. the times change and new technology get's introduced and people think it's something new. thanks for trying to make me sound like i'm some tool, it's an honor. i've been hated since, mmmmm, i got my license and it's nothing new.
one more thing: so if i made a bad friggin car and just rolled on some rally wheels, would that suffice?, even though in my heart, i'd feel ashamed that i didn't do what i wanted because some square didn't like it?

I am runing strong arm lowers but went with the SC&C adjustable uppers. I also am using the ball joints provided by SC&C for the uppers and lowers and was under the impression they would make the car sit lower as well..

I'm sorry I'm going to have to draw the line here. If you're running 22"s on a "pro touring car" you no longer fit the bill. You've crossed the line from improving performance, to making your car stand out in a bling bling hip hop manner. You are basically creating what I would consider a Donk.
Donks:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
this coming from a guy that used to own a Chrysler 300c with 22s that was at SEMA 2006. You have your genre's all mixed up. Its your car build it how you want it, but it sure as hell isn't pro touring. Muscle cars with 22"s belong in Dub Magazine...
You won't find any of the cars with 22"s at the track, you won't find them performing, you'll find them cruising to car shows... You've built a lowrider not a protouring car.
Not a fan...

LOL.... I must be old. My wife is always saying, if the music is too loud then yer just too old. Although when I crank up the two 1000 watt yamaha M-1000 amps in the house she goes OFF!!! LOL
But I gotta say, 22" wheels on a old car, well, any car really looks pimpish. Why?? Well more times than not they are all wheel, nuthing has been done to make the car or suspension better. See too may cars with bolted up 22s on a ratt car. Same oil stains on the carpet from the last owner, same bong water smell in the carpet. Same greasy vinyl door panels. And worst of all, same funky rear view mirror from the seventies. No money to fix the rest of the shab from the last owner but just enough to bolt up some Donk wheels. LOL
Then you get the total kustom, been cutomed up from the ground up. Now those cars warrant some donk, and they can play it off. Its a kustom. Not a touring car for the most part, not with 22s, show car yes, and some really nice ones, big bucks!! 60,000 to 100,000 dollars.
So when I see the 22s on a 4,000 dollar car it just screams donk, like, I dont have the money to do the rest but I can do this.
Cheese is cheaper at the grocery store, even better yet the cheese line. Government cheese can be had for nuthing in 25lb blocks. Id go that route, get some govment cheese, same ending result :)))))
And all in jest. Just trying to be funny and show my dislike for govment cheese, yeah, Ive had my fair share, and cheesy wheels. JR

It looks great. Actually I have the same wheels, in polished aluminum, if thats the Chicayne car . They (Billet Specialties) say they are Chicayne wheels but they arent. They are the SLC62s. The Chicayne is a standard lip wheel, the SLC62 is the same wheel but with a smooth lip. Kinda a misleading photo op. Nice look though. JR

can you run a 315 wide tire on a 71 chevelle? this will be a 20 x 10 (I know I will be pushing the limit) Looks like everyone is running about a 305. Maybe their is a reason for that

without being rude or pushy or any thing but offering my own opinion...
22" is a LOT of wheel. Since our operating definition is "Whatever starts, stops, and turns better than stock is pro-touring", I have a tough time justifying 22" wheels as p-t.
But, that's just me. To each his own. I personally think a set of 18/19" or, max, 19/20" are plenty big.

Pass, H#ll even 20s are overkill on just about anything. Ever try mounting those POS. Just did a set of 25 and 30 series,,,,noooooooo sidewall, it felt like crap on test drive. You could feel EVERY imperfection in road and it had full on Air Ride too. And the look, just not enough sidewall. If you run 20s do some mods and use a taller tire if available.
honestly tire sidewalls and wheel heights are getting absolutley ridiculous.

hahahahaha, remember what i said about hatin? you haven't even done it yet and look.
all 22's isn't that bad IF and WHEN you lower it. you can't deny that green w/green wheels isn't above the level and personally i wouldn't do 22's on the front, but that car is great. a 20/22 & a 18/20 is a little smarter and just so you know, i didn't post donk pics. they may become that way eventually but i'm not even black and i know what a donk is:

one man's opinion of what looks good over another man's. for me, it doesn't matter how many times I see a 22 on the rear of an older car, I just can't like it. my tastes are far different than others anyways, but I just don't like the look of 22's. JMO
And that my friend is the beauty of hot rodding

We have done plenty of 22's on the rear and they fit with the correct tire. Here is a 71 Chevelle we did with 22's and later he switched to 20's. I'll post that photo next.

I had a 20/22 combo on my wagon for a while.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/07/19200716-1.jpg
It was bad ass. Got complements everywhere. I once walked out of a convenience store to find a father standing next to my wagon, giving his son a breif history of the wagons he'd owned.
I loved it, except I didn't love it.
After driving around like that for a month or two, I had to admit several things:
1. My car was slower
2. My fuel economy when to crap
3. It was harder to stop
4. They were too easy to damage (I proved it!)
5. The driveline was taking a beating
6. But boy howdy, did it look good.
I had a long conversation with myself about these issues. Then I decided that anything I did to my car that didn't actually improve its performance was a "RICER" mod. And that was me.
It didn't feel so good. So I sold them to someone with no such convictions.
Surprising things about them, in retrospect.
1. They still rode great on my car. B-bodies weigh several tons, ans thier suspension adsorbs bumps well. I call it the driveable living room couch.
2. Even with all their weight, they STILL handled better than the 15's that it came with.
I later switched to some fairly light OZ Racing 18" wheels. It was so much nicer. The 18's were an actual improvement, and still looked pretty good.
I have no illusions about my car being Pro-touring. It isn't. Not yet, anyway. It'll be a year or two before it gets the treatment. But It most certainly will.
