View Full Version : 69 GTO Judge: Need Wheel Suggestions

My dad has asked me to help him choose a set of 17" or 18" wheels for his all original, Carousel Red, 69 GTO Judge. I think he's willing to spend up to$1400-$1500 on the wheels, gauging from the ones he's shown interest in so far. He's taking it to Hot August Nights this year and doesn't want to rock the 14" Rally II's with trim ring delete so he wants to get some larger, more modern wheels to swap out for various shows, cruises, etc. While the car is all original, and will be staying that way, he has actually autocrossed the car at times and absolutely loves doing it! Awesome right? So some modern rubber may help him to enjoy the autocross events as well.
Anyways, does anybody have any suggestions for wheels to use on a car like this? There aren't many out there that have a PT style to them, Roger P's is the only one I can think of, and we're having a tough time coming up with ideas. Any suggestions?
This is not his car, but it looks identical to this.

I think we're looking for something that has somewhat of a vintage look to it. Obviously not a TTII, but we're probably not looking for a BBS or HRE styled wheel on this one, if you catch my drift. Definitely open to gray/black centers, etc.

Here's my Judge with different style wheels. The original torque thrust D's are the only ones in that price range though. The shiney Boyd's were close at still under 2k for the wheels.

Those boyd's do look nice Rubes. I think I could get him to spend the added cash if it wasn't for the Mom-factor...she may be the limiting factor.
I'm kinda liking the Vintage Wheel Works V-40 and/or V-45 in 17" sizes. What backspacing do these Pontiac A-bodies usually run?

aint that always the case...lol
Those are 18x9 w/4.5 backspace...but it could easily go another inch I think (I only put them on quick for the pics) so you may be able to go 18x10 w/5.5 backspace...but that would be close. You'll need to check your car specifically since I didnt check the other side either.

I think these would look awesome in a set of 18's on your ride: AND, they are a new wheel design, that is very classic looking. Not like you'll pull up to another car at a show anytime soon, and see another GTO with the same tired old wheels on it next to you if you go with these:

Rushforth "Concept 1". Available polished, brushed, powdercoated, or any combo of the above.

Check out any of our wheels and let me know if there's something you're interested in. Here's a few shots of some GTO's that we've done. It all depends on what style you're going for.

They make those rally II's in a 17 or 18" billet. THey look really good and especially on yours since it will still have the origional look. Kind of pricey though, but what wheel isn't besides a TTII.
Heres my goat.

Gearbanger,
What wheels do you have?

Since the rest of the car is all original, I vote for the billet Rally IIs.

Mine are Intro Vista. 18" on back and 17" on front. I thought they had a little pontiac flavor with the way the spokes have a "V" cut into them kind of like the ralley II's.

I know for a fact that he really really likes the billet rally II's but the price is a major concern. Roughly $600 a piece is pretty tough to swallow, we must keep in mind the mom-factor here guys!
I don't know if anyone reading this thread will have the ability or be willing, but could anyone do a quick photoshop with the 17" vintage wheel works V-45's on a factory orange judge? If so, that would be a tremendous help.
Thanks guys, and keep those ideas coming!

Wheel Vintiques makes a Billed pontiac rally wheel-(I considered them for my 69 T/A clone but they look "different" if they looked more stock i'd go that way my choice has moved towards a more correct"Trans Am" wheel like Act III for tha "racer" look )- take a look at the wheel vintiques and make sure you have enough rubber on them so they dont look "small" it will make a HUGE difference in handling so you will like it when your done.
