my monte should finally be getting a new suspension this year and new brakes to go with it. i am getting the ATS AFX spindles and be using Kore 3's corvette kits. Should i use C5 or C6 calipers? What pads do you recommend? regular or drilled/slotted rotors? i will be using 17" c5 rims up front. the car will be primarily ab/used on the street.

the only diff in the c-5 and 6 in the c-6 is stronger due to the casting. as for pads would use hawk heard good things, and for the brake rotors for the street would just go plain oe you will get enough performance for the money again this is what i have read. i was going to go with the c5-6 brake but went with the c6 zo6 so we will see what happens good luck with the project

is the c6 z06 caliper different from the c6?

The standard C6 caliper used on the base and Z51 models is a twin 40.5mm piston floating caliper, similar in design to the C5 caliper but with additional material across the bridge to increase rigidity (~25%). The C6 Z06 caliper is a 6-piston, fixed mount caliper and completely different in every way, shape, and form, although it will interchange with any OE C5/C6 setup so long as it's used with the C6 Z06 rotors as well.

On an ATS spindle, any of the OE configurations are a bolt-on deal, so it's mostly a matter of budget, wheel size, aesthetics, and desired performance.

i doubt i could use the z06 parts then as i only have 17" wheels. i guess i'll go with the c6 parts. thanks!

De nada. With 17" wheels you are going to be limited to the 325mm [12.8"] C5/C6 rotors, but make sure you double check your wheel fitment with a template if you've already got the wheels. You can download free templates from here: http://www.kore3.com/tech.php#fitment_templates

The Z51 Caliper is great! You can find them on ebay or even new they're not that expesive. I run them on the '69 Chevelle and a '68 Camaro with manual brakes!
I'm with Apogee...check your clearance!

i'm gonna be using 17in c5/c6 'vette rims, so i'm confident they'll fit. i'm still gonna check 'em, i'm just confident.

I have 13" C4's on 16" rims with a 1/4" spacer. I would think you could use your 17" rims (?). I have a set of C5 calipers and now need 17" rims :) Love the journey!
