What are the ideal measurements for the Gmod and ST uca's?

Does cutting 3/4in off the mount and moving it back 1/2in sound about right?

My measurements off my template are lower ft bolt 1.060" lower rear bolt .775" measure from the existing holes downward. My template was acquired by me when I visited Guldstrand sometime around 1973, I talked to an engineer there who said they developed this template for Penske. My version shows some alternate holes that were tried, these holes were higher and lower than this "final" version.

NOTE Chicane67 was an employee of Guldstrand Ent and says his hole lowering measurements are: F .875" R .775" This version seems to be removing a bit less anti-dive than mine. This may be a later template.

My web page has the template if you want to drill the holes.
I moved my whole bracket to the rear 1/2" and with Speed Tech upper arms have approx 4 deg caster with no shims.

I would just lower the mounting holes if you are using aftermarket UCAs. That way you get better FVSA geometry of the Guldstrand mod without having too much positive caster.

Yeah I think I'll drill new holes instead, seems easier.

Would I need an alignment if the holes were just lowered and/or moved back a bit?

Yes you will need to realign the car.

What if I went with the Howe tall joints, would I need an alignment?

Thanks

No matter what you do, once you unbolt anything in the front end you should get it aligned.

You are correct. You cannot get away from it.
