We've used Hughes transmissions with good success, but for your blown big inch engine, I would strongly suggest Bowler Transmission. Mark Bowler is really on top of the electronic transmission game.

Also, I would suggest finding a cheap junkyard core to take advantage of core deposits. For example, with the last 4L80E, we bought a $300 core and received a $1000 core refund.

Appreciate the info. I will call Bowler after the new year holiday. If I were to search out a 4L85E core, specifically what vehicle would I be looking at?
Right now Im more interested in the core for drivetrain mock up than actually building the trans. Once we get the body onto the frame, setting up the rear motor plate and putting the floor back in becomes job 1. I would prefer to use an empty case for all of that work.

2500 series 2WD pickup or van is the hot ticket.

If you need a core I have one that I won't be using for a few years, so I'm willing to let it go.
I can look up the specifics, but it was a good trans, out of a running truck. I bought it from the person that removed it, so I can't verify that info and that's why I'll call it a core. It should be perfectly usable as it is.

I spoke with Bowler yesterday, and I will be going with their hi power 4L85-E (1000 Ft Lbs). And they helped me out on a bare case (cracked) that I can use to do drivetrain mock up and re-install the floor/tunnel. Were still working on what stall for the lock up converter, and as soon as we have that figured out I will get the trans and converter going.
I also have to do some digging to see about controlling this trans with the FAST XF-I. Up until very recently, I was not aware that the XF-I had this capability.
