I'm building a 1969 with DSE Mini Tubs and going to run 17" wheels. I'm running a 315/35/17 on the back but should I go with a 245/45/17 or a 245/40/17 on the front? Don't want to have clearance problems, running stock a arms.
Thanks,
Vicious69 :bananna2:

Go bigger, im running a 255/40/17 on the front of my 69. It has stock a-arms with a hotchkis 2-1/2 drop. There is no rubbing.

Between the two choices listed, I'd run the 245/45R17 as it's going to be the larger of the two diameters at 25.7", versus 24.7" for the lower profile tire. Size will vary depending on wheel width and possibly make/model of the tire so the above specs are only good with the tires mounted on spec wheels for tire sizing.

Go taller with the 45 series. It looks better in the 17" size.

All agreed...245/45's are a very safe choice and they fill up the wheelwell great. You will not rub...my car is super low as you can see:

musclecarjohn... your car is on the cover of the 2008 Flowmaster/US Tire & Exhaust calendar we have at work. Great looking ride!

If I go with the 255/40/17 or 245/45/17 tires what sort of off set would I have to have to not rub and run stock a arms? 17x8 wheel? 17x9 wheel? 17x8.5? which should I run.

I run 17x8 with 4.5" bs 245/45/17.

On my car, a 17x8 4.5 BS wheel, 245-45-17 Nitto 555 tire, stock disc brakes, and Hotchkis springs rubs just a bit on the driver's side outer fender with the steering wheel turned full lock to the right. Every car is a little bit different.

Every car is different indeed.
I would think a 17x8 w/4.75-4.85" b/s on 245/45 rubber would be a very safe combo.

I hit the frame just before full lock. A little modification to the steering arm stops . . .
