Art Morrison frame is in!!

For those of you that don't know, the Wayne Due C5 subframe that was in my '67 Camaro suffered cracks on both upper control arm mounting points on the framerails. I decided to replace it with an AME Sport GT front subframe that also uses the C5 parts I had. Vince aka "mr. quick" bought the Wayne Due sub and it's going into one of his cars.

The install went pretty smooth, and I just picked the car up from my exhaust guy who had to make some new stainless pipes to connect my headers to the X. The AME sub has exhaust pipe tunnels that required me to re-route the exhaust a little. Hopefully this is the last time I need to modify the exhaust, because having work done in stainless isn't cheap.

Anyways, here are a few shots of the car's new stance. This is about as low as the coilovers can be set in front, and I don't want it any lower. I just have to set the alignment at work on either Friday or Saturday then it's time for some cruising.

Sorry, I don't have any really good shots from under the car yet. I'll take a few when I have it on the alignment machine.

Ha Ha.....I'm a flat-rate BMW tech by trade, so getting stuff done quickly is what I have to do to be successful.

The swap wasn't too bad, but there were a few set backs. The exhaust had to changed little, the steering shaft had to be shortened, I had to mount brake line brackets and mount the e-brake cables. My inner fenders also had to be cut a little bit since the location of the upper control arms & coilovers were different than my Wayne Due subframe.

I think that's it really, it was just basically a part swap. I kept everything in the car during the swap, including the motor & trans, sheetmetal, radiator, etc.

I have not really driven it yet, just a slow cruise back home from the exhaust shop. I will align it tomorrow morning, then I'll get a better idea of how it rides/handles.

It's kind of shade-tree, but I just supported the transmission with a jack stand and the motor with a jack stand and floor jack under the oil pan. It was the only real solution I had, since the car was backed into my 1 car garage. I backed it in so we could slide the subframes in and out easily, and the original plan was to use my engine hoist to support the motor. I realized that wouldn't work because the hoist was going to block the front of the car and make pulling the subframe out impossible.

In the end it worked quite well, but I made sure that we made quick work of getting the old frame out and getting the new one in. Nobody got crushed by a subframe or LSx, so that's a good thing :)

I made a support beam that mounts to the firewall and radiator support to hold the chunk up. Sweet ride andy, good luck on the shoot.

Well, I set the alignment today and took it for a nice drive. The car feels and rides great with no bumpsteer. I never thought the Wayne Due sub felt bad, but now that I have the AME sub I can certianly feel the difference.

I might want to go a little stiffer on the springs, but I haven't beat on it enough to make up my mind yet. It came with 550 lb. springs from Morrison. I have also been meaning to swap out the rear springs and shocks for the HTH "stage II" set-up.

These will be going on it sometime soon. They are Fikse FM5 wheels in 18X11" for the rear. I think these will complete the car.

Thanks, I don't think I'll ever not mini-tub a car after having these on the back of this car. It makes the 275/40/17's on the back of my other 1st gen look tiny.

The motor has Patriot LQ9 stage 2 heads, Comp XER cam (224/230) and Stainless Works headers. It also has a double roller timing chain and Comp pushrods. It has 60 lb. injectors and a Holley 90mm throttle body. I think that's it, everything else is stock '02 LS1 stuff.

What are you running on the front? I just put in the AMR frame and I have 245 x 45 x 17's (7" rim with 5" backspace) and I have the coilovers pretty low and it looks like I might have rubbing issues.

I'm curious as you seem to have good clearance.

I'm running 325 x 50 x 17's on the rear (11" rim, 5" backspace)
