I was wondering if anyone knew what backspacing I can use on a 68 camaro with everything stock. I am planning on running 17's... I was thinking 17x8 in the rear with 4.5 backspacing. I would like run wider, if possible, without mini tubing it.. I would like the tire to be kept inside the wheel well as I may plan on lowering the car in the future.
thanks.

17x9 with 5.5 backspacing is an easy fit. Run a 275 wide tire.

I was assuming 40 series. that would give close to the same tire dia of the stock 195 75 14 that my camaro has on it now, within close to a tenth of inch.
here is a good source for quickly figuring out your tire dia and section width. It sure beats using a calculator. lol
You can compare your stock tire size to any given combination..

To be clear, they never came with radials. So the 195/75R14 is the closest radial size to stock bias-ply available.
Regardless the 275/40R17 is the choice of many here since it is the closest to stock height.
