Lenie,

Can you grab a shot of how you plumbed the shelby gas cap to the tank?

Sounds great.

Lenie,

Can you grab a shot of how you plumbed the shelby gas cap to the tank?

Sounds great.

Hope this helps...
Inset shelby gas cap. Cut out original door for gas and fabricated a recessed area with the shape of the new shelby cap.

I purchase a shelby gas cap that threaded into a flange. I cut out gaskets and put on both sides of the car then threaded it into the newly fabricated recessed area. I then drilled and tapped holes on the back side of the threaded flange and mounted the original filler neck installing another gasket. I machined the opening in the threaded flange to be able to install the original gas cap. I sleeved the original filler neck to the new Rick's gas tank.
Original neck bolted to Shelby threaded flange.

I will be curiose to know how you like the mufflers. My drone was so bad I changed them out before I got 300 miles on my car. But it was a convertible. You may not experience it with the HT.

Sometimes I open this thread just to get a glimpse of the wheels and stance on this Firebird. The wheels were a bold, but very wise choice.

Lenie,

Quick question, I'm building a black bird also, love love love your car... Did you strip the chrome off the bumpers before painting them? And if so how :)

Lenie,

Car looks great ! What are you using for rear suspension ? Are you currently running 345/30/19s ?

Must be a tight fit, I just ordered a set for my vert.

Kicks look great !

Thanks, Brian

Kevin, sorry. Didn't see your question. Yes, I took the bumpers to a chrome shop and had them dipped to remove the chrome. We then cut, narrowed and shaved the rear bumper and painted them.Thanks.

Kevin, thanks. The rears are 335/30 19's on 12's. I had 335 on 13's but when I ordered new wheels, I decided to go w/the 12's to maintain space. They actually fit really well. The kicks fit great, really like them, just getting ready to cover them in leather as I'm doing upholstery as we speak, it's a first so I've got my fingers crossed.

Ok, I've been a little lax at posting updates so I'll give it a shot. Been busy but most of my work has been fine tuning items that weren't quite there. Man everything on this car is tight. I'm not going to go over everything but I'll hit the highlights. I changed from coilovers to airbags because I wanted the car to sit low when parked, man what a challenge to get fitted with comfortable clearances. I removed everything, made new clearances on the rear end, manufactured new rear/front air bag brackets and purchase new front airbags. After airbag installation there was interference w/my pan hard bar and rear fuel lines on the bracket I built so I built new fuel lines w/a little different twist on the bracket. The floorboards got a little warm for my liking so I removed the exhaust and wrapped the entire exhaust system and blanketed the mufflers. I also purchased some thermazite insulation and added it to the roof on top of my fatmat sound deadener (big difference) and also will be adding it to the floor prior to installing carpet. So for a little catch up, on the entire exhaust system, I had it all thermal coated, added heat wrap and blankets in areas where I thought there would be heat issues, keep in mind, I sprayed U-Pol Raptor on the underside of the car, in the trunk and on the inside floor boards and firewall. Also added Fatmat sound deadner and now thermazite, whew. I've installed rear bumpstops, moved a lot of wiring from the tunnel to under the dash to make room for the center console design I think I'm going to build, checked front seat fitment, made cardboard templates for the door panels , built the armrest and think I now have a design I'm going with. I've framed in the rear seat area and added an overflow bottle for my radiator. I don't know if I've mentioned it but I bought a Marquez headliner from another member on the board, although in hindsight if I had it to do over I think I would stick w/a stock headliner. What a pain. You don't know how many times I lost it and almost threw it in the garbage. In the end I'm going to really like it more than stock but not being an upholsterer and doing this all myself it was almost overwhelming. Don't get me wrong, it's a very good product but as you know, no two cars are identical and it required a lot of fitting, trimming, fiberglassing, fitting, fitting, fitting and more fitting and because I modified the interior of my doors I had to figure another way to mount the twe side pieces. I've been at the headliner for about two weeks now but getting very close to finishing, Thanks Tracy for taking my call and giving me some good advice, really appreciate it. The urethane dash pad I ordered from MCB looks nice and fit very well, I was going to upholster it but now think I'm going to leave it as is. With Brett's help, I've removed the front swaybar that Wayne Due originally installed w/his front clip and am installing a splined swaybar to give me more turning clearance. Brett came up w/the idea/design, took measurements ordered the pieces for me and then cut and bent them to fit, I really like the idea/design. I then drilled and tapped them and added a few holes for weight and design, only have to powder coat them and install, then I can put the car back on the ground. There's more but that's enough for now, things are starting to really come together. I'm really hoping to finish by April, but doing it pretty much myself ya never know. Here's a few rough picks. When it's all said and done, I'm going to have to do a little paint touch up, wet sand and buff.

Very cool what your doing with the interior.

What is headliner made of?
How did you attach it?
Same question with the inside sail panel and pillar molding.

Looking forward to see what you do with the door panels.

Thanks, the headliner is made by Marquez, it's fiberglass. I added 1/8" landau foam and covered it with Alcantra (black), it's a suede. Held in place by mirror, sunvisors and Headliner light. Sail panel is usually held in place by the quarter inerior panels but I have modified my interior doors so I will be bolting mine in place as I'm trying to give my interior a little industrial look. Thanks again

Is there anything special that needs to be done to make the blocks (wood) that you use under the tires?
Is there a limit to how tall you can make them?

Thanks. Just 2x4's and wood screws. The taller you go, the harrier it gets jacking it up.

I kept all my original side glass so I had it all tinted yesterday. All I have left to finish is the trunk and final cut/buff. Pulled it out last night and got a couple of quick pics w/my 99 cent camera to show tint.

GoodGuys show in Puyallup last weekend went really well, much to my welcomed surprise, Foulplay was awarded one of the top 10 cars of the show and got to drive thru the awards ceremony to accept the builders choice trophy. Over 3000 cars, pretty cool. Also got to park next to CHC Chris Holstrom's awesome 1967 Nova build.

I'll keep an eye out of this episode. When you get a chance I'd like to see how you set up the hood release since the front valance is totally blocked off. I still plan to do something similar on my 67 but am curious about the hood release.

So I have to be honest, I've fabricated a finger pull through the grill w/a cable but have been extremely lazy and haven't installed it yet as I've been driving it...got to get off my bbuutttt.

Thanks for the reply Lenie. That's what I was thinking I would need to do also. Use a 69 style latch and route a pull through the grill. But, if you come up with a better system please post it here. I'm just now start8ing back to work on my project after taking three years off to finish my masters. I have the DVR set up to record Car Crazy tonight. Looking forward to seeing your car.

Do you have any links or part numbers for the parts you used to build that sway bar assembly?
I read you got the bar from speedway, but is that where you got those ends? They look custom built.

It's all custom, sent speedway print of bar with specs required and they made it, arms were ordered straight at spec length and we cut, bent, drilled and formed them. Washer/spacers custom made. Everything custom made to run inside the frame rails for clearance reasons and turned out good and performs excellent. If you'd still like the part numbers, I'll try to go through my records and find them for you. Let me know, thanks.
