What gauge sheetmetal should I use to smooth my firewall? I'm planning on doing a single sheet over the whole thing (minus the steering, wiper, brake and accelerator holes.

I have searched, and the only thing I saw was a guy saying "replace"...and it was recommended that he go with 16 gauge...

I am simply going to put a smooth piece of sheet metal over my existing firewall... The kits only seem to cover the passenger side.

So two questions:
1. What gauge?
2. Any insulation between the firewall and the smooth sheet to eliminate vibration rattles?

You can use 16 gauge or 18 gauge. I just recently smoothed my firewall. Here is a link with the details.

I would say 16 gauge and if you want to eliminate vibration 3M has some 2 part foams you could put in between like you would use to put on the reinforcement beam on a door shell if you were putting a skin on. Or you panel bonding adhesive like 3M 8115.
