Over the winter, with xmas gifts I hope to upgrade to a posi. So I have started to try and identify the rearend in my 68 camaro. It should be a 12 bolt but a previous owner swapped in a 10 bolt. From looking at pictures, I think it may be a 7.5" 10 bolt. I know the best way is to pull the cover, but they have not salted in Pittsburgh yet, so I am still driving the car. Just trying to get an idea.

What do you guys think?

Thanks,

from that angle looks like a standard 8.2 10. Not sure if they made a 7.5 that would fit a 1st gen f-body. Maybe big gear head will chime in.

Thanks Mr Quick. I would probably keep a 8.2.

I don't think any stock model of the 7.5" would fit in a first gen.

It is probably a 8.2" or 8.5" ten bolt.

The easiest way to id a 8.2" or 8.5" ten bolt is the pinion nut.

The 8.2" uses a 1-1/8" socket on the pinion nut.
The 8.5" uses a 1-1/4" socket on the pinion nut.

Hope this helps.

easier way for 8.5 is to look at the bottom of the center housing...more material right below cover and look for the dimple in the cover.

That's definitely not an 8.5" I can't see enough to positively ID it, but it sure looks like it may be a BP 8.2".

Thanks for the replies. I am going to try and get a wrench on the pinion nut. May get a better picture.

Is a BP 8.2 original to camaro's?

Does look like a bop 8.2 rear. Does the cover have a cut on each side of the cover like a half circle?

I finally go under the car and took the cover off. It is a 7.5/7.625 10 bolt out of ???

Needs replaced.
