I found a crack on the front subframe of my '68 Camaro today, it runs from the centre weld and up under the steering box. It's beyond my capabilities to decide if it can be repaired safely, so I'm waiting for a professional frame builder to look at it for me. Would you bother repairing a stock frame? replace it with another? Or bite the bullet and put an aftermarket one on if you have to pull it all to bits anyway?

If I go aftermarket, what's the cheapest option anyone recommends?

I would wait to see what the frame builder tell you. There are places you can find a replacment stock frame but you might have to pay a bit for shipping due to there size. However you will definately pay less then buying an aftermarket frame.

Here in the states it's pretty easy to find another, the same sub was also used in Firebird to 1969, also Nova, Ventura, Omega up through 1974.

I saw a similar crack in a pickup truck that used wheels with a lot of offset, the power steering box repeatedly tweaked the frame attachment area. Does the crack run through a steering box bolt hole?
If the subframe is straight you can weld it, but the crack tells me it's had a hard life, and I'd check carefully for other cracks.
