welding on a flaming river column?

I just received my new flaming river steering column for my 67 camaro. its pretty nice! I was wondering if anyone has taken the gutt's out of their's and did some welging on it? or if you can even weld it? It is 304 grade stainless steel/ non polished. I want to make mine mount to the dash a little differently, that is my reason for asking!
      Thank you
      Kevin

We do it at the street rod shop I work at all the time. Usually welding the column drops on. Back gas your stainless tube if possible to minimize the "sugaring" on the back side. I've welded on columns without disassembling, just ensure the wiring is well out of the way. Good luck.
