Anyone running a 295/40/17 on anything? If so, can you please let me know what brand and what the real measured height is? My math tells me that it should measure 11.5 wide and 26.2 tall, but that same math told me that my 315/35/17s should have been 25.6 tall and they are more like 24.25 unmounted. Thanks guys. -Scott

Mounted diameters are going to vary with the wheel width... what width wheels are you putting these on?

Well I bought the 315's, and then decided that I can really only afford Coys at 9.5"..... Obviously too narrow of a wheel and the 315's seem to be too short of a tire.
I would like to split the difference and thought the 295/40 would fit on the 9.5 without looking retarted/unsafe and get me another inch of height. Unfortunatly I have only been able to find one tire that size on tirerack and its a slick. Thoughts?

Anyone running these? Anyone want to buy some brand new 315's?

I just picked up a set of the 295/45/17. They are true to there size specs, which is on there web site http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/strip.php?item=ETStreetRadial Running them on a 71 camaro with vintage wheel works 17x9.5 with a 6 inch back spacing. No rubbing issues. I will post some pics when I get the front wheels mounted this next weedend.
Here’s great web site that helped me in fitting and comparing tire and rim size. http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp

I'll be following this. What is your total width on them, sidewall to sidewall, mounted on the 9.5" rims? I'd like to put them on my lowered 69 Cutlass.

I have a 68 Chevelle SS that I building similar to yours. I was planning on running 315's. Did you only go to the 295s b/c of the cost of 17x11 wheels? How is your rear fender clearance with what backspace you are using? Do still have the tires?
Thanks I can't wait to make these improvements to mine also.

I went with the taller tire for a couple of reasons.
1) Yes, the cost of 11" wide wheels was more than double what I could justify for 1 component. I'm not a flashy guy, so Big $$ wheels do very little for me.
2) Our Chevelle wheel wells are fairly long (front to back), and the short 315 looked like a spare. From behind or at any ANGLE, they look sweet, but from a 90* side view, sorry, not enough tire.... I don't care how much you lower it.
3) I have replacment quarters on my car, and I'm not sure if they are hung tighter than factory quarters or what, but it was going to be a TIGHT FIT once the car was lowered enough to fix #2) from above.
I have already sold and shipped the 315's, and look forward to mounting up these 295's. It will be a while before my car is drivable again to give any feedback on the tires..... but they look cool!
