"Warranty engine cost... ?? "

If its a warranty item it wont cost him a thing. If he got stupid however... it sucks to be him. That's for sure.

What caused this to happen? was the guy beating on it way to hard to soon? or was it a flaw in the motor?

I think he is talking about what the dealer bills GM. I bet the Service Writer that wrote that up is a happy guy. That bill by it self would be about a 1/4 of a months work if I remember correctly from my Service Writing days.

yeah its what the dealer bills GM.
it broke down on the guys wife in town, i looked at the tow bill and the road she was on is a 25 MPH zone and in that small town you don't do 26 or you get a ticket.
search LS7 broken valve spring and its happened to alot of people.

Sounds like GM better be recalling some LS7 motors & changing springs.

Looks like an awful LOT of damage for 25mph!! LOL!!! 6000 rpm in first gear maybe..................

I'll just stick to my boring old carbureted Gen 1 383 for a few more years.

Wow never seen an LS-7 eat a spring. I know it happens to SRT-10s all the time. My local dealer had three lined up waiting for heads from Mopar. lol

They've got a rev-limiter but that won't protect an engine for a missed downshift. Also, don't know if the trans is manual or auto.

Ugly mess,

Exactly what I was thinking, the Z06 Vette comes only in a manual. It almost happened to me once, very easy mistake.

its happened to enough of them so GM won't ship them back to Bowling Green to replace the engines because they have too many to do and not enough time to do it. thats the only reason i was even aloud to tear it down that far.

I will give you a couple hundred bucks for the engine!!
LOL!

forgive my ignorance but I'm still at a loss as to whether this might be a defect or driver abuse. I'm particularly curious since I was expecting to buy/build an LS2/LS7 soon.

On the downshift theory, I must be being particularly dense right now because I'm not putting the pieces together.

What's the likely cause for multiple spring/valvetrain failures? Valvefloat? Parts defects? Driver abuse?

If you miss a downshift, the electronic's ability to limit rev's is overwhelmed by the mechanical forces of the wheels backdriving the engine

I think the combination of a bad spring along with some higher RPM did this, pistons dont explode going 25mph! LOL!

I was thinking that also, but wouldn't that mean she'd have to be doing like (guessing) 50mph and then downshift to 1st gear to be near the rev limiter?

ah yes ... the old "wife was driving it 25 mph in a school zone" story.

I'm pretty sure 1st gear is good to 62mph in C6Z06; that's why the 0-60 times are so fast--there's no shift.

62 sounds really high to me, mabye mid 40 but couldnt be in the 50's.In my ls6 6800 is around 38mph and i dont think there gearing is that much different.

Larry is correct. The gearing is different, any more gearing and 1st and 2nd are useless at WOT.

Right before he took it to the dragstrip and bounced it off the rev limiter all day:drive2:
